how are social security numbers tied to you?
how does a s.s. number prove you're a us citizen?
how would you prove to be an american to the social security office or when applying for a passaport?
how are passports fraudulently acquired? how are they caught?

i am writing a report on "how to..." i chose "how to get away as an immigrant in the us". i am legal here, even though i wasnt born here and thought it was an interesting subject. if any one have any information they know, story to tell, etc it'd be much appreciated.
thanks!

Well your question is complex but not too difficult to answer. First of all, an illegal immigrant would first have to obtain some kind of birth certificate. It can't be one of those hospital-issued souvenir certificates, though. It has to be one with some kind of raised, embossed, stamped, or colored seal, and has to have the name of the place that issued (i.e. Florida Department of Health, Office of Vital Statistics; or Hillsborough County Vital Statistics Office). With this, they could go to a Social Security office and fradulently obtain a number to go with the name on the birth certificate. From there, they could get a state-issued identification card, and then could apply for a passport using all three of these documents.

Every SS number is tied to a person's identity when it is issued. The numbers themselves identify the area of the country and the year of issuance.

SS numbers do not prove citizenship. They are issued to anyone who is working legally in the US.

A passport is issued to anyone who can prove both citizenship (usually through a birth certificate or naturalization certificate) and identity (nat. cert., drivers license, etc)

Passports are acquired fraudulently in many ways, but most often by using stolen proof of citizenship (such as the birth certificate of a person who died shortly after birth, for example), then building an identity around that name and date of birth, then using the BC and ID doc to apply for a passport.

A ssn does not prove citizenship, a passport does. And when you file for a passport, you have to submit an original birth certicifate to apply for a passport. Your suppose to show a birth certificate or cettified INS paperwork allowing you to get an ssn, but the ssn office, always seems to get fooled by false documents, and not saying that someone at a passport office might not get one slipped past them, but it happens a lot more at the ssn office than the passport office. And its the ssn card they really want more, because its that card they need to use for benefits. SSN cards are easy to make, and do not have too many security features like a passport does.

well 1st of all , that idiot arbee should know that there's so much information everywhere that the internet is just another mean to have it but back to your question I think you meant to say "How to get away as an ILLEGAL inmmigrant in the US?"--maybe there's not enough incentives for people to make'em Gestapo agents or witchhunters or God's law breakers in any case illegalitty is only because of the american beurocracy.....and getting away is just because only racist claim the so called legitimacity of abaiding a crooked law such as the one that says we must be registered in the governments books just like everyone else....so noone could be exempt from paying so much taxes.....but don't worry poor illegals pay more then those wellfare recipients, many of wich are legal residents or USA citizens, and that all of us pay for.

They get away with it because there is no cross reference or checking between state and government agencies or between government agencies....hard as it is to believe. It can be done but they spend money on other things that don't work but create work ....with the technology we have it can be done and it is a crying shame that is isn't.
