Pray. A lot. Try not to focus on it and let it consume your life, you will never be able to function if you do. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers and CM (continue the mission).
Let him know you're thinking about him, though. Email him. Write him letters. Send him a care package. Send pictures. There is nothing soldiers like more than mail from home. It really lifts our spirits and makes the day that much better.

I'm sure hes even more scared than you are. Always remember that right or wrong, hes in that uniform to keep the people he loves safe from our enemies. I think the best way to deal with your fear is to send him letters or emails, and just talk to him about your day. It will help to bring him closer to you while boosting his morale. It was amazing to me the two times I was out there that it was the little things that eased my mind and gave me a break from all the stress.

Your brother is in good hands. Although there is an element of danger, here, the typical day is probably not as bad as you think.
I don't know him and I'm not sure exactly where he is in Iraq, but I'm in Baghdad and it's not as bad as you would think.

I have several friends and family members over seas right now, Iraq, Afghanistan, and I have a suspicion Somalia (but don't tell anyone... haha). Anyway, I am in touch pretty much daily with at least one of them. I pray for them everyday. I also let them know that I am very proud of them and continually wish them safety. The most powerful thing though, most touching for me, was when one of my cousin overseas wrote me saying how proud he was of me staying in school (I almost dropped out of college to enlist) and "Fighting the right fight in academia." You know, as much as we back here want to encourage and support our men and women Over There, they still are doing the exact same thing for us. I take pride in knowing as many over there as I do. And I know they want me to finish school, to to get into the education system and put some pride in our military back in the schools. So I work my hardest in school. If they can follow their calling and fight over their for freedom, then I can follow mine.

Realize that it's a job he has or wants to do. My daughter is over there for the second time and we try to focus on the "good" things. Never think negative. It's something she wanted to do and is proud to do it and I respect her for that. We should respect ALL our military. Always remember that God is in control of every situation; no matter what happens.
