It shouldn't cost more than $150 to get your little princess spayed unless you live in a big city...vets in cities usually overcharge compared to more rural areas. You don't usually need pet insurance unless you pet is older and can come down with cancer or other debilitating illness.Cost wise you will have to pay for vaccinations and spaying anyway because the insurance is usually only good for illness or accident which spaying and shots aren't.I recently had my lab/rotti mix spayed and it cost me exactly $150...and she weighed in at 55lbs....somehow I think your baby might be a bit....smaller and the cost for knocking them out for surgery goes by weight. So it should be less than that for yours.

Spays normally run about $100-$200. The younger a dog is, and the smaller the dog is at the time of the spay affect the price. My 10 pound shih-tzu's spay cost me $120 (but I have a 20% employee discount). It also depends on the clinic. Some will do pediatric spayes as early as 3 months, others wait to do it until 6 months. Normally under 25 pounds costs about $125-$150. Over 25 pounds will run $150-$175. Over 65 pounds should run $175-$200. There are some spay/neuter clinics around the country that will spay a puppy for $30-$50. Try calling your local animal shelter. They should be able to tell you if there are any special programs in your area.

Do a Google search for "low cost spay" plus your zip code, and you'll get back results.
As far as insurance, this operation may or may not be covered by them. Many dog owners are kinda "on the fence" about whether pet insurance is really worth the $$$.

It shouldnt cost you that much to get your puppy spayed.
It depends on vet costs in your area.(my vet only charges about $75)Just call around to some local vets and ask them what they charge. I dont know anyone who has pet insurance, but for something as routine as a spay you definately dont need it. Its a one time expense. Once you have her spayed and vaccinated, your vet costs will be minimal assuming your puppy is healthy.

Different vets charge different prices. If there is an amimal welfare association in your area, they sometimes have spay/neuter programs where they defer a part of the cost.

Many cities have affordable spay/neuter clinics. BUT use it as a last resort! I brought my dog to one and he cought fleas. Its assemlby line nuetering where one nurse does one job ect,,,,, My dog had an infection because he ripped his stitches out since he never recieved a cone. If you can go to a vet, they observe your animal prior and post operation.. i would do it over the expensive way.

The ASPCA offers pet insurance, check out their website. Neutering is not expensive, call a vet.

My boy weighed 50 lbs and it cost me just under $100 to get him neutered. I don't think a chihuahua will cost that much, depends where you live.
