In Texas, there they are developing a new plan to aid in the overcrowding of prisons and the rehabilitation of the prisoners. Instead of building more prisons, they are wanting to spend the money on adding to the other program facilities such as ISF's (Intermeidate Sanction Facility), SAFP (substance abuse felony programs), and also to halfway houses.

They plan is basically to add new beds to these kind of facilities to be able to move some prisoners out of the prisons and into the program facilities, to better aid them in hopes of them not recommiting crimes.

Do you think this would work, or do you think there is a better way of making the corrections system work?

I think that's a good idea. We don't need to lock up people for 5 years in a prison who committed minor drug crimes. Don't get me wrong, they broke the law, so they have to do the time, but there are other lawbreakers that I would rather have locked up.

We should rehabilitate these people, get them back into society, and pay taxes, instead of being paid for BY taxes.

No I do not think this is a good idea at all, it is just letting criminals get an easier chance at freedom to commit crimes again. The best bet is to use the money to build bigger prisons. If the justice system would stop going easy on criminals maybe they would stop being criminals.
