I believe the most honest way is saying no to a date up front. The only reason you should go on the date with the guy and then dump him, is when you're still trying to figure whether or not to dump him.
If you go on a date and dump him after, the guy might feel like you played him and he'll just place a label on you immediately on how cruel and unsophisticated you are.

You should always tell a guy upfront about whether or not you would date them so that he knows exactly how you feel about him and there would be no confusion between the two of you. Besides, if you say yes, he'll think you feel the same way and I'm sure you don't want phone calls/im from him everyday that would be annoying. So yeah, tell him the truth.

Up front to be honest, you'd be leading him on otherwise. But if you are curious then go ahead, it's a date. It's not like you are saying, "yes , I will go out with you.", you're just saying you'll give him a shot. God bless.

Hmmmm. IF you are sure that you are a no, then please gracefully decline, and don't play games. you are not doing him a favor to accept and "dump" as you say. Be Honest but kind from the get go!
