"Orthodox Christians believe that Jesus is Lord and Son of God in a unique way: he remains forever distinct from the rest of humanity whom he came to save. Yet the gnostic Gospel of Thomas relates that as soon as Thomas recognizes him, Jesus says to Thomas that they have both received their being from the same source."

Jesus was the son of God as we are all children of God.

Those who say the Gospel of Thomas is not authoritative are speaking with false authority.

Fallible human beings decided which scriptures to include in the Bible and which to reject. Their selection was based on their prejudices and biases, not on the truth.

Modern Christians don't like the Gospel of Thomas because it challenges Exclusivity, that is, that Jesus is the only means to salvation.

They must do this, because to believe otherwise they would have to acknowledge that there is no one "true" religion. This they will never do. They believe that their religion is the only valid one, and that any person who does not accept Jesus will not attain salvation.

They are the ultimate expression of pride, the first of the seven deadly sins.

The Gnostic Gospels were written well after the original four (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) became regarded as accurate portrayals of Jesus' life. They were written with the intent to spread the ideals of the small sect known as the gnostics. Therefore, the authors used the original four as a starting point, then altered and changed events and quotes to ones that would advance the gnostic viewpoint. One of these views was that Jesus was simply an enlightened believer and we can attain a status similar to his by living in a certain way. It should also be noted that the gnostic gospels contain many strange views and hold a very negative viewpoint of women. One more side note: the four gospels were never "declared to be canonical" by a council. They had been regarded as historical and divinely inspired for centuries, the council merely confirmed this status.

The bible states that Jesus is the Son of God Demons admitted it (Mat 8:28), people mocked Him when he was on the cross because he said it before (Mat 27:43) & Jesus confessed that He was the Son of God (Jhn 5:25 + Jhn 10:36) there are many times Jesus is called the Son of God these are only a few, the gospel of thomas is a false gospel !!!

Mat 8:28 And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.
Mat 8:29 And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?

Mat 27:43 He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.

Joh 5:25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.

Joh 10:36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?

The gnostic gospels were all turned down by those in charge way back then. Ever so often they pop up for a new generation to be inquisitive with. Same with the Essenes. They are not part of the official Bible. Either of them Catholic or King James.

Did you everr hear the expression doubting thomas? It comes from the Thomas you write about. I am not even a Christian but to say that you believe the gospel of Thomas seems a bit unusual as he was the only one who doubted Jesus I think it is better to go with majority view

Jesus often referred to himself as the Son of Man. He told us that God was our Father and that he loved us. He referred to us as brothers. We're all the children of God. But, no other child of God has sacrificed himself to save us from death.

If you believe in God, the Creator, do you think Him not capable of being an omnipotent spiritual being while at the same time being the Holy Spirit that touches your heart? Do you think He's not capable of walking around as a flesh and blood man for a few short years at the same time as being the Father and the Holy Spirit? Quantum physicists say photons can exist in more than one place at the same time... Why not God?

If you were God and your children were all running around like idiots hurting themselves and others and every time you tried to reach them they fell grovelling in the dust or even offered human sacrifices, would you turn yourself into a man to get your message to your kids?

Why is that so hard to believe?

It's been a while since I read the bible, but when I did I was stricken by the fact that Jesus seemed to call himself the son of man a lot more than he called himself the son of God. Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but that always seemed odd to me...something you never hear in church...

The gospel of Thomas was trash when it was written and it's merely vintage trash today.

The real facts and the absolute truth have been clear for a long, long time.

Why bother trying to confuse all these folks with quasi facts and half truths?

How could you believe one gospel over many? Jesus openly told the world that He is Gods Son. He said "I Am that I Am" just as God tol Moses!

Y'know, it's at times that I wish Christians had kept ALL of the Inspired Word of God in the bible. Not just the parts that they saw fit to keep.

How depressing.
