You apparently are expecting evolutionists to give you a simple explanation. We human beings don't have the ability to completely explain the universe or evolution. We have only two options to pursue:
The first is to work hard and observe facts and make scientific deductions, a process that has benefited mankind in magnificent ways.It has to be right. You are witnessing it right now as you read this, as one example. At the same time, we have to admit that our knowledge will always be limited.
As far as our "high intelligence", this is only one facet of the whole
picture. A monkey has better coordination than we have, when jumping from tree to tree. Dogs have much better sense of hearing and smell. Ants are better organized.
The second option is the real simple one: forget about all this science stuff, medicine, physics and just say that God created everything and micromanages this world.
This way, you can feel that you have an explanation for everything
without making any effort.
The majority chose the second option. I wonder why.

More than likely, the need for food led to the ability to stand up straight. Hands became skilled to grasp the food needed and to aid in preservation of the species. As our knowledge increased through experiences, the brain became larger to accommodate higher thinking.

Well first off evolution has been proven and if you don't believe me feel free to email me because I am almost finished with my masters in Paleoanthropology and my girlfriend is An Evolutionary biologist and we will go to extreme lengths to make sure everyone is properly educated. Secondy...High intelligence doesn't just come along at the snap of a finger...millions and millions of years of evolution and learning cause us to have the intelligence that we have now.

Actually, there are a couple of theories about erect walking and at least one relates to the hands.
a) Walking erect allowed our early hunting brethren to see farther in the savanna and to therefore be more effective. It also freed up our hands to produce tools and weapons (we didn't need them for locomotion). Protein is essential for brain development, so the ability to use those new advantages to hunt meat became cyclical.
b) Walking erect minimized exposure to harsh sunlight (less surface area affected), which is essentially to allowing for larger brain size, because the brain produces a lot of its own heat. Then, much of (a) followed.

I'm a creationist, but I believe they think that...
Stand up straight = Reach for fruit on trees
Skillful hands = Picking Berries, peeling fruits such as bananas.
Intelligence = Way to defend or escape in wilderness intellectually, since they were somewhat weak. (Made weapons)

I hope you don't write questions in high school textbooks for a living. Although if you did, it would go a long way towards explaining why Americans aren't getting much out of their educations these days...

unfortunately, the evolution of humankind is still in progress. some of us are not able to stand up straight, use out hands skilfully or display any intelligence at all.
for instance, creationists.
I'm sorry, I know that's not helpful - I just had to say it.
