My husband is currently deployed in Iraq. No matter the poilitics, please tell me, should this war that we are fighting in Iraq end now? Should we bring our troops home to their families and let Iraq take care of themselves? I need all answers, not just ones that support my husband or my cause.

I agree that we should change the role of our soldiers deployed in Iraq. We should change their mission to an advisory one and not in the pre-Vietnam definition of the word.

If that's not feasible then change the rules of engagement so they can accomplish the mission that they are given. Having to stop and ask permission to engage an enemy just because he is in some "sensitive" site like a mosque does nothing at all for morale. We gave them a mission, now we need to let them do it in a manner consistent with their training.

If we pull our military out before the mission is complete we will have created another morale busted force like that of the late 70's and early 80's.

I respect all those that wear the uniform of my country and keep those nasty people from showing up in my home town.

Thank you husband and his unit for their service.

If I say yes then I am wrong. If I say no then I am wrong. The answer to this question lies in the news. Look in the Iran focus news. Look in the Iraq news. Look in the Jerusalem times. These may help to form your opinion. The United States news is biased. They report the way the tide is flowing. This keeps good ratings. You will see that Iraq is a war ground, not only among the Shiites and the Sunnis, but all of the Islamic world. Read about the hatred that is felt toward Americans. This did not just happen in the last couple of years. It was there when Clinton was in office. It was there when Bush Senior was in office. It was there when Reagan was in office. We are the great Satan that is riding the donkey.

If we leave now, the Iraq people will have no power what so ever. They'd have the same problems as before, and we can't just leave after tearing the whole place apart. Although, yes it's hard to have someone you love over there for so long and some troops need to come home after extended periods of dutiship, we wouldn't be doing the right thing by leaving now. We need to restore order first. The war's pretty much over, it's just now in a "pick-up" phase where the troops are trying to restore order. I don't really care what the politics are, the right thing is to stay until everything is tidy.

i never supported the war, I never thought it was a good idea, and I still don't. My husband went over there and fortunately returned safe and sound, but not all of his friends have been so lucky.

From what I understand, based on the news, my own research, and my husband's experiences, there is little that we can realistically hope to gain over there. Our best case scenario now is that it won't degenerate into civil war, and we're not even sure that keeping our troops stationed over there furthers that goal. It might make it more difficult.

it's turned into a quagmire and a money pit, and we're not sure that we gain any more by staying there than by leaving, and as military families are well aware, we have much more to lose by staying. I just can't see it as being worth the price we have paid and continue to pay.

It's not World War II, it's not the Revolutionary War, it's not the Civil War - it's not a glorious battle for freedom, truth, liberty and democracy. It's a dirty, disgusting fight over power and oil. It's just not worth it. Nothing we can reasonably hope to acheive over there at this point would make it worth sending my husband back there, and if I can't send my own, I have no business supporting a choice to send anyone else's. But that's just how I feel, I know other people see it differently.

I wish all the best for you and your husband.

It needs to stop but we can't just bring all the troops home now. If we do that, al qaeda or some other group is going to move in while the Iraq governmental structure is weak and take over again. I do however, disagree with the amount of troops that are over there, and the amount of money we're spending on it. Congratulations, we did our job, got Saddam out, but we need to help Iraq restructure, but let them do it their own way, and gradually pull soldiers back home as they rebuild. Not add them or take them all out at once.

lady you certainly have a good question, and I am sure you will get many different answers as to the pros and cons, But, to be truthful with you I don't think any of us has a really good answer, as we don't know enough about what is happening in Iraq nor do any of us really know what the gov, has in mind as they and the news media do not know what the word honest means, I personally feel we should not leave Iraq until it is secured by their gov, and they can handle the problems that arise, if not we just might have some more Muslim visitors and we can't afford to lose many more W,T,C, if you know what I mean, or Iran may be in the shadows just waiting , but again I really don't know neither do any of the other people on this site,
you do have my deepest regards, lets pray things go well

I support your husband and all the other service men and women who have had to serve in Iraq; however, I DO NOT SUPPORT THE WAR. It seems more like a civil war so let the people who live there fight it out. In other words, I don't think we should have anyone there in the first place.

My husband was deployed to Iraq too and no matter how much you miss him you need to put that aside and decide whether or not you believe in the job being done there. I have to say that as far as I am concerned, no we should not pull our troops out. We should however pull them back to the outskirts of towns like Baghdad and Tikrit and let the AirForce fly over and drop a few more bunker busters and give our guys the O.K. to open fire when needed and not just in self defense and let them actually kick some more ***. Get the insurgents afraid of us again like they were when my husband was there with 3ID. Good luck to you while your hunny is gone and I wish a safe return.

We should begin to bring our troops home and force the Iraqis to defend/protect themselves. This cannot be accomplished overnight but it needs to start NOW!

I've heard it said that if we can take a bunch of 'green' young American people and turn them into warriors through our armed forces training in 6 weeks then we should start demanding the same of the Iraqis. I agree. Why should our young men and women be fighting for people who will not even fight for themselves? We've gone in and taken away the dictator and rebuilt so much of their country at our expense (financially and with American lives) it is now time for them to stand up and be self sufficient.

I will support our troops in any way I can but I do not have to agree with the politics that sent them to the war front. Our young men and women have volunteered to protect our country so that we can live free. They (and their families!) are to be commended and thanked as much as possible.

Yes, I support your husband for serving and all..

But I think we should get out... We can't fight their war, we have to let them fight and learn it them selves.. Children or new born countries need to learn their own lesson.. I'm pretty sure the British didn't come and help us end slavery.

Our country learned the hard way and learned lessons which will set moral values through out the country (HOPEFULLY) and we are still learning and trying to fix things today.

Now Iraq needs to learn this lesson on their own, when their people realize that freedom is what they want and happiness and wants to join the world then they can start their government...

Sacrifice of our soldiers were not really wasted, they taught us this lesson... Interfering with other countries affairs will kill our own country. However I think the US needs to clean up the mess some how, I don't really care, I don't care if it's an apology to the Iraqis and saying that they will leave... Or if it's something else, however if the people don't realize it them selves (Iraqis), then we will never win this war... They'll never get their freedom if they don't fight for it themselves or WANT IT.

Good luck to you and your husband.
