Okay, I know that people here should know English (since they are answering/asking questions in English), but maybe you remember before you learned English...

Does English sound melodic? Is it ugly to you?

i remember i started learning english because i like its pronunciation a lot... it had certain rhythm, although (or probably because) i could never differentiate between words, it was certainly too fast for me... so i imitated the sounds and the rhythm with made up words - whole stories in this non-existing pseudo-english sounding language.. that was fun.. it's naturally better now that i speak english, but i can no more enjoy purely the sound of the language...

English is a good language. One has to learn English so that the person can go freely any where in the world. It is the International language spoken almost everywhere in the world. It acts as an umbrella to safeguard one's interests. A decade ago to learn English, you had to attend costly English classes or purchase course material like tapes and books. Now you can learn English for free from the comfort of your home using the Internet. The BBC and the British Council offer a number of on line courses, which teach written and spoken English. You can also improve your English by watching television programs and reading English newspapers. For more information, visit http://tinyurl.com/qnzpt

It sounds like any language you don't understand does to anyone, mostly a jumbled mess of very quick syllables that you couldn't hope to be able to write or know where to pick out words if there aren't large gaps or big stresses. It being too fast and sounding like a tongue twister is the main thing I think people feel, when trying to listen to any language they don't know. As to whether it sounds nice or not, that completely depends on the person, as much as what food people like. An interest in a language usually comes from more than the specific sound of it anyway, a lot of the interest comes from the culture as well.

I started learning English in my early 20's. Until then, I hadn't been able to put two words together in English and I still remember what I was thinking about the three languages that I was watching movies in: Italian-melodic, romantic, good for opera. French-simply beautiful, good for poetry. English-pragmatic, good for everything. I liked all three of them but I chose to study English for its pragmatism.

That's a good question. I speak English and am relatively fluent in sign language but as for other spoken languages, I think they seem like they talk really fast. I wonder if they think the same thing about us. Who knows?

Fernando Lamas once said that English sounds like barking dogs.

He wasn't being funny. He did an impersonation of an English newscaster - using doubletalk of course - and sure enough, it sounded like a barking dog.

He didn't say it was ugly, but I wouldn't call that melodic.

I love it
I learn it since kinder (in Mexico)

but is better when we practice with English speaking people,
but not like with bad accents (no offence to anyone)
but like non educated people do not talk well.
