Dad tells me that they won't eat the same things we do because that wouldn't make them specialer than us. I doubt he is right but was just wondering.

Jews have very strict dietary laws that determine what they can and cannot eat. They are based upon the Law of Moses. Here is a summary of those laws.

1. Certain animals may not be eaten at all. This restriction includes the flesh, organs, eggs and milk of the forbidden animals.
2. Of the animals that may be eaten, the birds and mammals must be killed in accordance with Jewish law.
3. All blood must be drained from the meat or broiled out of it before it is eaten.
4. Certain parts of permitted animals may not be eaten.
5. Meat (the flesh of birds and mammals) cannot be eaten with dairy. Fish, eggs, fruits, vegetables and grains can be eaten with either meat or dairy. (According to some views, fish may not be eaten with meat).
6. Utensils that have come into contact with meat may not be used with dairy, and vice versa. Utensils that have come into contact with non-kosher food may not be used with kosher food. This applies only where the contact occurred while the food was hot.
7. Grape products made by non-Jews may not be eaten.

I hope this helps.

It's called the laws of keeping kosher.

Here's the basic idea:
We're ONLY allowed to eat animals that chew their cud AND have split hooves. Also, they have to be slaughtered in a VERY precise manner: ONE TINY MISTAKE and it's considered treif-not allowed to be eaten (non-kosher).

We're ONLY allowed to eat fish that have fins AND scales. The laws for "slaughtering" and "degutting" it aren't as precise as with meat. It's just the same ol' simple process.

With birds, the Torah (or Jewish Bible) lists all of the birds that we're NOT allowed to eat.

Jews do not eat pork. We do not eat any animal that does not chew the cud and have cloven feet. We also do not eat any fish that does not have scales and fins (shellfish), birds of prey, or scavenger animals.

100% Kosher hot dogs mean they contain all beef from the front of the cow.

BY THE WAY, IT IS A GOOD SOURCE OF DIET.

its because of laws we follow given to us in the bible. we don't eat certain things, and we don't mix certain things. for example, we don't eat chicken noodle soup with a spoon that has ever been used to eat cereal. since non-jews don't buy kosher foods and don't separate meat and dairy dishes, etc, it becomes a problem for jews who want to eat over at the house of a non-jew and causes a lot of tension.
