so yesterday, a friend of an acquaintance passed away. she was my ex-housemate's new roomie's best friend. she was 25. today, my ex-housemate invited me over for dinner. when i got there, it was a house full of the new housemates friends and they were all very upset over the loss of their friend, crying and what-not. so feeling very uncomfortable, i made an excuse and left. i hardly know these people, and my ex-housemate is in the same boat as i am, but i feel bad for bailing. should i?

No sweetie-don't feel bad-if you didn't know her there is no reason to hang out with people that are going through such a hard time. If you stayed and didn't show any emotion (because you didn't know her) then people might perceive you as a cold rude person-you made the right decision!!Take care!!!

He could have left the house too and the two of you could have gone out for dinner instead.

I wouldn't feel bad, it was an uncomfortable situation for you with not much of a solution.

That's a really tough situation to deal with. It's not wrong of you at all. And you know what? The mourners were probably so upset about the death that they didn't even notice that you left - or didn't mind.
Keep your chin up.

Yeah, your ex-housemate had you over for support and you ditched him. Shame on you.

I wouldn't feel bad. You really couldn't comfort anyone since you didn't know them or the deceased very well.

If you are just acquaintances, I don't see anything wrong with leaving early.
