And don't tell me it's a baby chicken!! Will they hurt anything? Do you take them out? I know someone who does.

It's the chalaza. It won't hurt anything. I don't take them out, but I know people who do.

CHALAZA Ropey strands of egg white which anchor the yolk in place in the center of the thick white. They are neither imperfections nor beginning embryos.

The more prominent the chalazae, the fresher the egg. Chalazae do not interfere with the cooking or beating of the white and need not be removed, although some cooks like to strain them from stirred custard.

I don't know what that white thing is...it's kinda attached to the yolk. It's probably something to support a baby chickens life...like the umbilical cord. But then again...chickens are born in eggs outside of their mom. Hummm...

Maybe it's something to provide the growing chick with nutrients until it's hatched. Again like an umbilical cord (that's not attached). I'm sure it supports growth somehow.
