This question brings back memories of the 70's, i was stationed at Millington, TN. in A-school, as an avation electrician, at that time you could drink at 18 and some of the 17 year olds would come in the barracks, making loud noise, fighting and tearing things up in general, so to correct this problem the C.O. put beer in the coke machines, so any one with the correct change could get a beer, regardless of age, the loud noise, fighting and tearing things up, stopped at once, seems like it was all about the 17 year olds acting up to show everyone they could get beer, but as soon as everyone knew it was there in the machine for everyone , the bull stopped and the 17 year olds chilled out, lol

Have to be 18 in order to serve, but through the national guard you can do a delayed enlistment when you are 17 with parents permission, and then as soon as you are out of school for the summer you can go to basic training. When you finish high school, of course that has to happen first. Or you can do split ops where you go to basic training during summer, and then go back to school, then go to your military career training the following summer or when you graduate. 17 with a parental consent to join and serve. My roommate in tech school was 17, so obviously this was after basic training.

17 with parents consent and they are wanting you to have a high school diploma, to go active duty at 18.

Split - option for HS Jr's in the Army National Guard is Great.. I signed my son away to them for a 10K on bonus,, He loves it! Combat Engineer! Just bought his first car today with the first half of the bonus..And paid for his first semester of college. ...I think this bonus is up to 20K now.
