Any sudden increase in drinking water is something to be concerned about.

You need to think about possible kidney infection or failure. You also need to be worried about Diabetes

You didn't give me enough information however. Is he peeing a lot to, or not enough for the amount of water he is drinking?

Is he on any medication?

Long story short call the vet.

somtimes my dog is like thattoo... she doesnt drink anything one day and decides she wants to drink like 5 gallons the next, what kinda of dog do you have and does it run around a lot? if it does then that might be it.... give water until it stops panting or whatever but dont over do the water... itll just make you dog go more... just watch and make sure it isnt dehydrated... watch it and see what it does.... good luck!

You need to have your dog tested for diabetes. (YES, animals can become diabetic) A sudden increase in water intake, or change in appetite of bathroom needs are indications that your pet may be having a health issue. My beloved dog became diabetic, and inspite of the insulin and prescription diet, he lost his sight this summer. Please do not delay in getting your pet the help that he needs.

This is a problem. Your dog needs to be checked out by a vet.

i agree with alyssa, it is not something you want to let slide.. as a dog gets older you want to watch water consumption because overconsumption can mean a number of usually bad things that sadly occur as a dog gets older. If it has to be something, hope for diabetes as it is managable!

Have your dog tested for diabetes or kidney disease. This is a medical emergency unless serious problems ruled out.

i can tell you one thing to get your dog checked ,for thyroid problems. and if its not that maybe your dog requires more water that most. i say thyroid because if a person has a thyroid problem they get terrible thirsty, thats what happened to me and dogs can have these problems too. when a thyroid is running faster than it should your body also takes more water,it makes ya real thirsty. it can also cause other problems,an excellerated system.

It is usually a sign of health problems. I would take your dog to the vet.

See a vet- excessive drinking can be a sign of illness, poisoning, or liver/kidney failure. It's usually a bad sign, and you should have it checked out ASAP.
