Yes, I was instructed for 2 months. I was informed that my new retainer would cost $200! And my parents are going to make me pay for it. I have enough, but I have been saving a while for something else I want... I really don't want to spend $200 on something I don't even want.
I have worn them for 2 months, I was told to for 6, but ... will 4 months make a huge difference?
When I smile you can't even see my bottom teeth, if they shift a little i could careless, but do think they could go back to they way they were?
Is it neccessary for me to buy a new $200 retainer?!

It takes 6 to 9 months for the periodontal ligament to "solidify" so that your teeth will not move anymore. Even after that, you need to wear your retainer at least several nights/week for many years to ensure that your teeth will not shift.
If you don't wear your retainer, your teeth will get crooked again. Yes, they will move. Yes, 4 months make a BIG DIFFERENCE. You have stopped wearing your retainer way too soon.
Ask yourself this question: would you rather spend $200 on a new retainer, or need to go back into braces again? Because if you don't replace your retainer, you will certainly get crooked bottom teeth again.

even if your teeth don't go back all the way to the way they were, they will still come really close because you have only worn the retainer for 2 months. the reason they want you to wear retainers for 6 months is to allow the spaces in the bone around the teeth to fill in, so that the teeth won't drift back into the holes left from when they were moved.

I am an adult on my 2nd set of braces. I had them when I was 12 and after wards, had to wear a retainer. My dad stopped payment on the dental and my retainer ended up unusable later. I had to get braces again, now over 20 yrs later because over time, my bite changed and 10 yrs later, my bottom teeth could've gone in to my upper roof of my mouth. My current braces are re-arranging my teeth so I don't end up with the screwed up bite down the road and when I get them off, I will have to wear a retainer the rest of my life, I'm told. (Fortunately I have insurance). For your own sake, do what the ortho recommends and you won't have physical and financial regrets later on in life.

That was very unwise. You will have to have braces again in a few years. My kids were told they had to wear their retainers at night for the rest of their lives. My kids do and their teeth have no shifted one bit since they got them off. The Dentists are amazed at how faithful they have been.

Yes the teeth will shift back to the way they were before. They have not had enough time to seat into the new shape they are in. My daughter had to wear her retainers far longer than six months.

It might not seem like it is worth it now, but in five or ten years from now you will wish you had spent the money and got it done.
Their insurance doesn't cover part of it?
