Ok first to make the proper fist.
OPen your hand facing up finges together. than slowly roll with your fingertips and other three joints such as the knuckle. Then take your thumb roll it into folded fingers under the knucke but aboive the other joiint.
then put your hand in a fighting stance and throw it straight, no curve in you wrist and hit with the first two knuckles not the middel and others. Twist it like a bullet going down a barrel and snack your hips and punch as you hit your target/
Practice on a heavy bag.

the above post describes the standard fist. It's a perfect explanation of how to perform the punching technique as well. Probably not for the poster, but for someone who is more experienced. There is another method of making a fist that is sometimes utilized in older traditional arts. It's not a "secret" technique I don't believe although it is a valued secret to some. Basically you make the fist just as described above. Rolling the digits inwards to create a ball. However, you let the 1st finger (pointing finger) straighten out so that it is pointing towards you and the end of your finger is against your palm rather than in the ball of your hand. You let your thumb lie across it as usual. The rest of the fingers relax a little more than in a "standard" fist form. This method is weaker from every other angle but is much stronger when punching forward and focusing with the first two knuckles. The hand position allows the bones to align a little easier, creating a stronger wrist (because of alignment) which translates into a stronger technique. However, I don't teach this to beginner's simply because to strengthen the wrist more in the front we are weakening it in other places. Requires a little more skill to punch this way, but a little more effective. Hope that info was useful to someone.

You can ALWAYS break your hand. Boxer breaks are the most common breaks in all fights. They are also some of the most nasty! The only way to truly minimize your risk is to either not punch some one or anything, or learn the proper way to throw a punch. Its easy to explain it here on these boards but what you really need is instructional direction. You need someone to tell you right from wrong with technique.
Seek out a boxing gym or a good striking art and learn up.
