Well not all Americans are like that. You have to see different parts of America and the different people. You are basing your decision on what ever part you visited. You dont know anything about the rest of America. I been to almost every state & they are all differences, snobs, nice people, rough-tough, they are everywhere you go. There are dirty & clean places here too. I'm sure they have the same type of people in Canada, but that makes it ok because the are "Canadians" and We are wrong for being "Americans".
All I can say is "If ya don't like.......Dont come back. You wont hurt our feelings none!" Stay in Canada or sumwhere, we really dont care.
And were I come from.....its corn bread & chicken....
We smile at people, we say Howdy to everyone we see, we hold doors open & we throw away the trash. Sumtimes it lands in the ditch, but there is someone who comes along & cleans it up..LOL
Since you think & I quote you "America is dirty & everyone is rude"...I'm glad you went back to Canada. & When you left America, I hope the Door hit you on your way out!
So Have A Nice Day.......sumwhere else.........
GOD BLESS AMERICA

I am American and visited Edmonton recently. I did find many people there very nice, but I also found some who were extremely mean. Several people made some really cruel statements about my Southern accent. I became lost one day and asked directions. The person I asked for help told me that if I couldn't read a map, I should return to the US where I fit in. There were places that were dirty, an amazing amount of drugs being used on the streets, a huge homeless population, and some businesses tried to over-charge me because they thought I was to stupid to understand the rate exchange. However, when I think about my trip to Canada, and when I tell everyone about my visit, it is those wonderful, kind people I met that I talk about, it is the breath-taking mountains I describe, and it is the fun shops I entered I remember. The mean people, the dirty places, the drugs and other not-so-pleasant events are not my main focus. Every place has its good and bad, and I am sorry that you tended to notice and remember only the bad about my beautiful country. I am even sorrier that you choose to state your discontent here on Yahoo, where, I am sure, many people will be extremely offended by your statements, and give you even more reasons to justify your feelings.

I think you mean, "why can SOME Americans be snobs sometimes". I don't think all Americans are snobs. Some people are like that no matter what Country you go to. There is considerate people and there is inconsiderate people. A lot of people are just miserable inside their own selves, and with their own lives, so they don't smile back. But you are right about all the garbage lying around everywhere, I am an American and that really makes me mad how people are littering my country. Don't let a few people affect your opinion of America. America is a beautiful place. There are alot of nice people here, you just happened to run across the not so nice ones. Just keep smiling and holding doors open for people, because that will make you feel good about you. It's their loss if they don't smile back. I smile at people all the time and they look at me like I am from another planet, so I understand what you are saying. But I am not going to let that change who I am.

I too am born American yet i do no longer evaluate myself a snob. I do have faith in case you opt to stay in any usa you ought to attempt and study the language. I now stay in Canada and that i've got many pals from different international places and we help one yet another they teach me their language and that i help them with English. yet even even with the indisputable fact that the main significant thought is maximum individuals are caught on them self no longer all human beings are. i think of if all and sundry might look out into th international and see the U. S. isn't the be all and end each and all the Universe then we could all get alongside purely a sprint greater efficient. It does not help in making individuals look greater efficient with the type you're conversing whether I agree that some individuals are snobs. teach some form of dignity for your self and convey your self somewhat greater intelligently..

Both places have dirty places and rude people. It all depends where you go. LA is really bad in the States. You will have it bad going to places like that but those are only one city out of millions that you want to..
I only been to a few cities in Canada in the Niagara Falls area.

Well, part of the problem is you only went to southern California! i have found through experience that that is a particularly rude area compared to most the rest of the country. Try visiting the southern states (i.e. texas and east), or midwestern states, and you will experience much friendliness!
While Canadians tend to be more polite as a whole than Americans, they are generally less friendly and open. i.e. ... they have the reserved politeness of the British; while americans tend to want to get to know people right off.
Please come back and visit some of the other parts of the U.S.!! Don't judge us all by one small area.

Not all Americans are impolite, and the responses you get to your smiles would probably vary from region to region, and city to city. I live in a suburban area, and if I'm out taking a walk, I'll say "good morning" to people whose paths I cross, but if I were in a large city, I probably wouldn't.
I do enjoy visiting Canada. The people there do seem more polite than in the States.

Because they feel that they did something to deserve the benefits of:
1. a historically good (read favorable to the selected) domestic government (which they are allowing to fall into shambles).
2. vast natural resources (which were taken from a people in the equivalent of a late stone age at gunpoint).
3. empire like foreign policy with the illusion of keeping the moral high ground (onward ChriSTAIN soldiers).
In other words they are a bunch of spoiled brats. The Fathers of the Revolution are rolling in their graves.

I am Canadian and staying in the states with my boyfriend and honestly americans are douchebags.
I hate them. as soon as they find out I'm Canadian their entire opinion of me changes.
I have never done a bad thing to any of these people.
Americans don't know ANYTHING about any other country and then call Canadians stupid.
I agree with you.
America was voted most unwelcoming, unfriendly country to visit. The border is just anal, the customs officers are complete assholes, I just overall do not enjoy coming here.
I have no choice though since my boyfriend is here and I'm not going to break it off just because of the idiots around me.

Because we are arrogant. We have money and power much like really rich people. Or at least that's why I think some people are snobs sometimes.
Don't lose faith, there are some of us that still hold those doors and say our pleases and thank yous.
