Society and the media... you see how girls look on TV and movies and all that... and how fat girls or ugly girls are portrayed - they're usually the butt of all the jokes... of course girls get self-conscious because of all of that..

Its sort of like we need to have your approval sometimes...but some girl are SO self conscious that if 1 person tells them something negative thats their thought for the day. Some girls didn't have a strong male figure in their life to say they look beautiful...Try to make her feel beautiful, like when u see her make sure the first thing that comes out of your mouth is honey u look beautiful or something similiar..make her feel beautiful so she dont have to go around all day with one negative thought. That happen two days ago or 3 hours ago.....Do u get it...And the news and songs and music video..music videos are a BIG part....

A big part of it has to do with the media playing such a role on what they think women are supposed to be like. If you flip thru a magazine, look at the models in them once. All of them are toothpick thin, perfect bodies, perfect hair and skin, and so on. In movies, tv shows, billboards, and any other media related thing, you hardly ever see a "real" woman. They are all super thin and have the ideal or "perfect" body and image. This then is what young girls think they are supposed to look like and guys think that's how women are supposed to look like as well. So, men go out and try and find a "perfect" woman and there aren't any and then women try and become that "perfect" woman.

1. Society and men have expectations of how the "perfect" woman should look. So, we try to live up to the "perfect" image.

2. Media and advertising. Everywhere you look, TV, magazines, billboards, etc. You see super thin, super sexy, perfect little women. So, again, we feel like in order to be attractive or sexy, that we have to be a size 0, have perfect hair, and perfect make-up.

3. Guys. Lets face it, you check out the cheerleaders during a football game, you enjoy the women in the tight or revealing outfits when watching a music video, you stare at women while at the mall, and on, and on.

Long story short, women grow up with these expectations, and most struggle with self image all their lives because of it.

There are many factors and theories on this. Some say the media. Some say it's men. Some say it's the school system.

I don't think there is just one area to blame for this. And I DEFINITELY don't think it's just women. Men are simply taught not to express feelings of self doubt.

I'd recommend reading articles about women's studies, and then consider if those ideas apply to all people, not just women.

because we are always being put down, whether it is from our friends our relatives just some average guy someone we don't know it hurts. most girls are more sensitive and fragile in that area than guys are. we like to feel loved and special and wanted and just what everyguy wants so when your girl or a girl you may just be friends with just be honest but not the blunt mean honest....be nice

Its called the MEDIA. Tons of airbrushed and computer 'fixed' women make for 'real women' with real boobs and thighs to become self conscious because the 'beauty' is computer generated and cannot be achieved without surgery.

Guys worry about themselves like that too, but they just don't want anyone to know. Good night!

mostly 'cause guys are so judgemental, maybe? Guys are so focused on physical things, and because they are... girls become so as well. Get a bunch of only girlfriends together and they don't care... they can laugh at the imperfections. In public, I guess it hurts less to point them out than to have them pointed out for you!

cuz we want 2 make sure that we don't look like crap and that we look good to the guys. girls r REALLY easy to get in those mean catfats, and go dogging other girls, so they want 2 make sure that they aren't REALLY like what those mean girls say. (plus they want 2 know if u think they r hot or not):)
