I think waiting for marriage before sex is stupid. Here's why:
A) Sex is good! People should get as much of it as they can in their lives (responsibly, of course) : )
B) I think you need to know whether you're sexually compatible before you make a committment to spend the rest of your life with that person. Sexual problems can really drive a huge wedge between couples and sex is very important in most relationships. You usually can't just say, "Oh well, we just won't do it, it'll be fine". Most men NEED sex and will become extremely frustrated with a lack of it in their relationship, and will possibly go elsewhere to get satisfaction. Couples really should discover that part of themselves before they get hitched, in my opinion.

It's not about whether or not you have sex, but whether or not you have sex with the right person at the right time. Most people don't meet their life-long mates when they're young... They have a series of relationships that are good, and then they end. It helps the process of discovering what's important to each person in their relationships. Set your expectations accordingly. Expect to kiss a lot of frogs. I would just caution having sex before you truly know and trust the other person. That often leads to regret on both sides.

I think we should always do what we feel in our hearts is the right thing to do. One person might be comfortable sleeping with someone on the first date while another woman may want to wait until 3 or until he has bought her flowers, or whatever. But I don't think there is an overall right answer to this question because it's a personal choice.

If the guy was out for only sex I'd think they would have broke up a long time ago, so I feel them having sex was perfectly fine even if they did break up.

does your friend know WHY he broke up with her? don't assume stuff.. talk about it. sex could be completely beside the point. if it is... maybe the guy wasn't satisfied.
marriage before sex is really up to you. in my opinion, sex should be something experienced with somebody you love and trust.

Just because that happened with them should not change your mind. If you love someone then sex is a good thing!
