The man who raped my daughter is being released from a Texas corrections facility, and moving in with my ex-in laws. They live in a family community, and they both work as bus drivers for a local school. Should this monster be allowed to move in there?

Are there any laws pertaining to child molesters in the state of Texas? We just found out when a monster gets out of prision, he does not have to register with the county, just the state.

I am sorry for the position you find yourself in. If you are in a position to do so you should move at once. If you are not in a position to move, then as another poster suggested you should inform the local police about the situation. But you should also understand that the police have no legal obligation to protect you or your daughter. The don't have the manpower to watch out for everyone 24/7. The final responsibility for your protection, and that of your daughter comes down to you. If you accept that responsibility then you need to take a serious look at how plan to do so. It is a personal choice that only you can make.

If you choose to take on that responsibility, have a plan. ANY plan, even a bad one, is better than no plan at all. Most local police departments will have information and tips on keeping safe. Take them to heart.

If you seriously believe that you and/or your daughter are in danger, consider arming yourself. If you have little or no training with firearms, get professional training on the subject. Consider getting a concealed carry permit as Texas is a shall issue state. Do not take this step lightly. Being armed is an awesome responsibility. But then, so is securing the safety of your family.

Good luck

The laws don't say anything about who he can live with. A register sex offender cannot reside or work within 400 feet of a school, daycare, children's camp, etc.

He also cannot be employed any place of the same nature.

As far as living in a "family community", there isn't much that can be done. Any place he moves could be a family community. i live in an apartment, and there are children around. There really isn't anywhere the person can move where there will never be children around.

He will have to register where he moves. There will be a posting in the local newspaper, giving his offense, and current address. Currently, I do not think signs must be posted in the yard, but they are supposed to address that in the upcoming legislative session along with listing the place of employment in the paper as well as on the DPS website.

No! Perhaps you can go to your police department and tell them a sexual preditator is moving into a family community, so they can "keep an eye on him."
