Maybe because it is one of the best examples of perfect architecture of the Greek classical age. Also, it is leading the vote for the new 7 wonders of the world. Lastly, you cant single out the Parthenon as something people are interested in saving. Most ancient construction preservation has been in the interest of many from around the world hundreds, if not thousands of years. It is an important link to world history and education

Peop0le seem to think they have to hold on to the past.

There is a lot of history involved and that should be kept as a learning tool. As for the structure it does give pleasure and resources to others so why not keep it around as long as posible. People need icons.

Why would you want to get rid of that many years of history. It is important to keep ancient monuments like that around, we don't want to let them go to rack and ruin. So much history there, I find it fascinating anyway. The world would be boring if it was full of tower blocks and sky scrapers anyway.

Because even with the damage the years (and wars and vandals) have done it is still remarkably intact. It is designed with almost perfect proportion and shows an architectural know-how, with its subtle curvature which makes it look even more imposing than it is, unmatched for the era.

It's a historical land mark and has been there for centuries. distroying it would be destroying a important part of human history
