I suggest you throw it out. Even though it might still be ok to eat you don't want to risk it. Butter is animal product and this means it will deteriorate - and I think by now it will be rancid and it will smell different to normal butter. Even if it was kept in the fridge... it still have a certain shelf life.

Expiry date Nov 06 doesn't necessarily mean that on the first day of December 06 it will poison you. These dates at given as a guide as to which date the quality of that food is no longer safe to eat. But some food - it will obvious that you can no longer eat it by the simple fact of its colour and smell.

Yes. Even if it has been stored at the correct temperature in the freezer compartmant of the refrigerator butter will still turn rancid after its expiry date.

Check the pack you have for taste and smell. If it tastes fine and also smells like butter eat it up imeediately but even if you have the slightest doubt Thrash IT. Your health is more important.

Actually yes it does, just like any other dairy product. Food Safety reports a life span of usability of 2 weeks when stored in the fridge at 40 degrees, I believe it could be longer and 3-4 months in the freezer at 0 degrees

butter is better fresher. Like most dairy products, it does tend to lose something with age. the fats will oxidise, it will go bright yellow, and eventually, after long enough, it will start to smell like other things in the fridge (fats attract aromatic compounds). the use by date is twofold. a) the product is best before this time, and will start to lose quality. b) we want you to buy more.

somewhere between those points of view lies the truth

To be honest I am not sure if butter can actually spoil. However, I can tell you that I have let butter sit in my fridge for quite a while and it was still good.

It's only two months so go ahead and use it if the package hasn't been opened.
Butter goes rancid a while after it's opened due to oxidation of fats.
