My cat, who has never been sick like this, started throwing up Sunday night. A trip to the vet showed some gastric irritation. She said it could be an obstruction, gastritis, or pancreatitis. He was worse Monday night--puking up bile-colored water, not holding anything down. Now he has diarrhea despite having received sub-q liquids at the vet's today. Is the diarrhea normal with the sub-q? We will probably return to vet in the morning.

Very good idea to go back to the vet. If she gets worse tonight, go to the emergeny clinic. Diarrhea could just be apart of the GI upset she already had, it sometimes shows up a little later as things progress through the intestinal tract. Vomiting is the bigger concern. She could get very dehydrated and become more sick. More diagnostics should be done- x-rays and bloodwork will help determine any of the things your family vet talked to about as possibilities. Instead of sub Q, she may need intravenus fluids-that will help more, but will require a stay in the hospital. Also, some good GI meds can been given IV as well as fluids.
Do not force water into her or give her any human electrolyte drinks without consulting your vet. If she has an obstruction, that can do more harm than good. What is the good of giving it to her when she cannot keep it down? It only adds to the GI upset.
I hope that makes sense. You can certainly keep it available, but do not force anything into her until you know what is going on.
Hope she feels better.

No that isnt normal after SQ fluids. Diarrhea is caused when the large intestine doesnt absorb the amount of water that it should be.. exactly what are they medicating the cat with? Antibiotics, antidiarrheals, antiemetics?? Let me know what the kitty is on! And if the cat is continueing with diarrhea and vomiting then he will get dehydrated again, you need some pedialyte and a syringe, plain water is okay too but pedialyte has electrolytes.. you need to keep fluids in the kitty, even when the tummy is upset. Avoid solid foods while the cat is vomiting! Ice cubes are fine if the cat is voluntarily drinking, if not than you need to force some liquids into him!

No diarrhea is not normal when an animal receives sub cutaneous fluids so my best advise is to get your kitty 2 the vet in the morning and just pray for him tonight and try to keep him comfortable. I hope the best for you & your kitty.

the diarrhea is not from the sub-q, it's another symptom of her sickness, if she is doing worse you want to take her the emergency hosp now, if you think he is OK for now just watch him closely and call your vet in the morning.
if you are still concernd and have questions call the emergency clinc now they call tell you over the phone what you should do
