You know, Canadians love to poke fun at Americans, and I hear these stories all the time ... but it's always a friend of a friend .. i;e; hearsay ....

Okay, I admit that Americans DON'T learn about Canada or any other country in school like they should! Nor do our news programs give much in the way of world news. Both of these facts are terrible tragedies that need to be remedied!

But ... it gets very tiring to hear these same digs against Americans all the time. Canadians always say things like, well Americans think they are so great ... but truth is .. most Canadians I have had contact with feel vastly superior and out of that smugness comes a real rude disrespect towards people they don;t even bother to get to know.

I love Canada, and I think the people here are wonderful, but I do get weary of being constantly chided simply because I was born in the U.S. And yes, I know a whole lot about Canada, because I have made it a point to over the past 20 years.

Okay, first of all. Knock off the stereotypes. That's not ALL Americans. We don't learn about Canada in school because we don't live there, let alone are involved with Canada. So why do we give a ****? Also. Americans could care less about Canada, while Canadians think they know everything about Americans and like to dish on them.

I really think that is going over the edge. Come on, who in their right mind would believe that. Canada is not that different than the United States, give me a break. What kind of person would really believe something like that, I think she must have been kidding for sure, or she is really ignorant. I would not take what this woman said to heart. Canada is a beautiful country with very much to offer, the people are friendly, and the hockey rocks! I am an American.

GREAT Question!

I am Canadian but half my family is American, therefore I travel there quite a bit. And the questions I get are quite remarkable.

I think North American needs more mutual respect in general, which includes more education about each other and understanding, despite political and value differences (which is a good thing, choice baby!)

Because American minds get too confused just learning about thier own country/culture.
Seriously when moving back to New Mexico from North Carolina I had literally dozens of people ask me "Wow they have running water there?" or "Do they speak English?"
We dont focus on a lot of world history here.

You mean like, there are lots of trees, snow in winter & some of the provinces fight over the official language . . ?
Oh and that's where the draft dodgers went . . .
And really, everyone knows the igloos and dog sleds are Alaska, USA !
Hey, Canada is cool and if everybody finds out , you'll be over populated . . . you really want that ?
