When Jacob was about to die he called his twelve sons to him and blessed each one of them. To Judah he passed on the royal line, because out of it would come the kings of Israel, including Christ. He called Judah a "lion".
Genesis 49:8 "Judah, your brothers shall praise you; Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; Your father's sons shall bow down to you. 9 "Judah is a lion's whelp; From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He couches, he lies down as a lion, And as a lion, who dares rouse him up? 10 "The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes, And to him shall be the obedience of the peoples."

This is a fulfillment of OT prophecy. See Genesis 49: 8,9 as an example. Any Jew well versed in the OT would recognize the fact that the Messiah was to come from the tribe of Judah, and no other tribe. The same applies to anyone well versed in Scripture

I dunno, but here's a scripture ref.
Revelation 5:5 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV)
5And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
