Pure bred dogs are the best choice as long as you buy from a reputable breeder. I would never pay hundreds or thousands of dollars for a designer dog that will undoubtedly end up with as many if not more problems then a pure bred dog.
People have this idea that designer/crossed breeds have fewer health problems but this is false. Designer/cross breeds are not tested for genetic faults as pure bred dogs are. If they were tested you would find that they have more problems, not less.

I like knowing what I am getting. As far as I am concerned it's your money spend it how you like but don't criticize my choice or preference.

It comes down to the individual breeder and then the individual dog. There are many unethical breeders who make their dogs pump out puppies heat after heat after heat, without any genetic testing, special pregnancy foods or supplements, and little if any vet care. It is absolutely horrifying what humans will do in the quest for the almighty $$$. Then there are the breeders who do everything right. They test all their breeding dogs for any and all genetic faults possible, they don't breed their females until the dog is old enough (approx. 2 y.o.) and then only breed every 3rd heat and only a total of 3 litters or so, special food, supplements, etc., etc...

Designer dogs are subject to the same whims and follies as purebreds if they _are_ being bred as "designer" dogs.

Same with the good old mutt.

Essentially, it is up to humans to ensure a dog's health and the health of its puppies. Good owner, good dogs, wretched greedy owner, poor unfortunate dogs.

I rescue animals. It does'nt matter pure bred or crossed, that rescue dog (or cat) will be the best you will ever have. I rescued a pure bred, boxer. I was told he was "mentally challenged."At the same time I also resued a mix lab-chow. I'm raising them together and are a joy to be with, the Mix dog teaches the Boxer. They get along with the 6 cats I recued as well. They are all up to date on shots, and yes, they are all fixed.

Mixed breed dogs are usually considered better as pets. However, there are good things to say about a pure bred too.

Pure breds personalities are clearer to determine by the bred and their physical expectations.

However a mixed breed is usually considered healthier because it carries a more variety of DNA mix which is idea for most dogs.

Pure breds are more expensive especially if you have papers to prove it.

If you are going to enter it in dog shows then it has to be pure bred otherwise love what ever you get!

both have their ups and downs..there is no such things as designer dogs...they are simply mutts that were raised with a cool name like labradoodle to make people think they are designer but thats code for "born into a puppy mill"

mutts are most definitely better than pure breds. Unfortunatley humans have turned many pure breeds into medical and emotional disasters. Pure breds are losing their beauty as well as health because of over breeding. They inherit defects like hip dysplasia as in goldens, st bernards, great danes. They inherit back problems as in daschunds and corgis. They inherit likelyhood of cancer as in boxers. Overbreeding has turned so many beautiful breeds into overpriced disasters and its really sad. Mutts are the way to go because they avoid these genetic inheritances and are overall better dogs!

I think it depends on what you're looking for. Some people choose a designer dog because they have allergies to regular dogs and that's fine.

I myself have no allergy problems but look for certain things in a dog and have found what I like best in one particular purebred...so that's what I have.

Each to his own. We are all looking for something different in our animals. Those who do their research can and will find the dog most suitable for them whether or not it's purebred or designer.

Cross dogs are much better. WHen their pure bread generation, their could be many problems. Crossdog breads get the best of both worlds

Purebred dogs are not "more healthy" or "bark less" than any other dogs.

We actually prefer mutts.

I have a mixed breed and a pure breed, I think that the mixed has a better disposition and more tolerant of the children.
