is used in an Applebee's Oriental salad? It tastes like it has ginger in it, but I don't recognize the flavor of the dressing. Is it something you can buy in the grocery store, or do they make it special for them?

Honey, I believe its called sesame seed oriental dressing with ginger or you can add your own ginger flavor. Just buy a piece of ginger and copy the chef's, and blend the ginger added to the sesame seed oriental dressing.

Probably more than likely made special for them, they are a franchise. Generally franchises have their own little secrets, "it's all in the sauce", so here's what I would do. I love using oil and vinegar, or actually red wine vinegar or a balsamic vinaigrette, is great, balsamic is very sweet, now if you dont get into to much sweet add a little pesto, garlic, (minced), pepper, melted butter, Mrs dash. Try anything be brave that's what makes things fun instead of duplicating their's perfect yours and you can put your own love into your creation, it seems tedious but dressings are easy
