There are really only three approaches you can take to the Bible - you can take it completely literally, you can decide some of it is metaphorical, or you can decide it is completely metaphorical.
It is logically impossible to believe in every word of the Bible literally, as it is written. It contains far too many contradictions.
Yet, if you wish to believe that portions are metaphorical, how do you decide which are and which are not? It is argument over the "interpretation" of various parts of the Bible that has split Christianity into so many denominations. I do not wish to take part in a faith that requires human beings to have to "interpret" and ancient book. I would rather get my knowledge of spirituality from the scientific, physical world, which is not metaphorical.
I can't accept the premise that the WHOLE Bible is one big collection of metaphors, because there's too many real facts in it.

Next time, when you read the bible, keep this in mind: the bible, both old testament and new testament, are about Jesus Christ. To approach the bible from an academic viewpoint is a mistake. Yes, there are many literary points throughout, but the bible is not meant to be read like a work of shakespeare, or a science book. It is about faith. When you read the bible, you must do so prayerfully, and with the understanding that the entire book is pointing you to Jesus Christ.
Hope this helps. God bless.

Might that mean that you're too lazy to spend time looking for the gems in the Bible? You don't wish to sift through for what you need?
If you do that in one area, why not others?
Do you accept EVERYTHING that supposed scientists say? Cold fusion? 200 MPG carbeuretors? How do you sift through what science tells you?
Too, there are some sciences that are a bit more rigorous than others.
Also, most of what we know about science, unless we have advanced degrees, is metaphor. Do you really understand the mathematics of quantum physics? If not, all you have is metaphor. Maybe you should dump that.

HOW STRANGE IT IS THAT SOME LOVE THE BIBLE AND TO SOME ITS CONFUSSION?
I believe the history in the bible above the world history books.
I believe the bible above all the religions that have a belief that causes all to be different.
I believe the prophecy, as has been in past, and that is present and some future.
I want to know all the people in the genealogy of Jesus, in the priestline, the judges and the prophets and truely expect to talk with them some day.
I want to know what year they were in after Adam, the year before or after the flood that they were in and the year born, of any event happening in time, to the year of their death before Christ.

Don Quijote de la Mancha is full of true historical events. The Bible is basically the same thing. Or not?

Understanding every paragraph and line in the Bible is not paramount in the determination of your eternal fate...knowing Him(Jesus) is. If you are serious in your quest for truth, seek God,and many of your questions will be unveiled.

I see your point and I'm sorry that you get nothing from the Bible. The more I read it the more I'm convinced that it's the real deal. It's full of wisdom that applies to even today's life.
