Freehand is more webbased and integration into flash... Illustrator is more of a print type design program. kinda hard to compare the two just pick what you think would be more useful.

Feature for feature Illustrator is way ahead of Freehand. Freehand hasn't shipped a new version for a few years and I believe Adobe doesn't plan to continue the product.

Illustrator integrates very well with InDesign and Photoshop, and now that Macromedia is Adobe, you can probably expect Illustrator to work very well with Flash and Dreamweaver in future versions.

Haven't tried freehand, but if it was made by macromedia it's gone.

Illustrator with Indesign.
