That's not too much. That's actually about right. (8 8-ounce glasses, plus more when you exercise).

But even if you drank 5 1-gallon bottles a day, it would not be bad for you. You would just pee a lot.

In a word, yes. Drinking too much water can lead to a condition known as water intoxication and to a related problem resulting from the dilution of sodium in the body, hyponatremia. Water intoxication is most commonly seen in infants under six months of age and sometimes in athletes. A baby can get water intoxication as a result of drinking several bottles of water a day or from drinking infant formula that has been diluted too much. Athletes can also suffer from water intoxication. Athletes sweat heavily, losing both water and electrolytes.

Water intoxication and hyponatremia result when a dehydrated person drinks too much water without the accompanying electrolytes.

It's Not How Much You Drink, It's How Fast You Drink It!

The kidneys of a healthy adult can process fifteen liters of water a day! You are unlikely to suffer from water intoxication, even if you drink a lot of water, as long as you drink over time as opposed to intaking an enormous volume at one time. As a general guideline, most adults need about three quarts of fluid each day. Much of that water comes from food, so 8-12 eight ounce glasses a day is a common recommended intake. You may need more water if the weather is very warm or very dry, if you are exercising, or if you are taking certain medications. The bottom line is this: it's possible to drink too much water, but unless you are running a marathon or an infant, water intoxication is a very uncommon condition.

You can actually drink too much, but its more too much too fast thats the problem.

You'd have to drink more than 5 bottles a day,
you'd have to drink 6 or 7 bottles (8 ounce) per hour OR
51 bottles of water a day to have a problem

Yes it is.

Drinking too much water before your kidneys can filter them can cause the water to back up and actually dilute your blood. This is known as water intoxication. It can easily put a person into a coma, and in more serious cases, cause death. More common, however, is you drink a lot of water and while you may not feel like you have to go to the washroom, in the middle of the night it could hit you like a ton of bricks leading to a wet bed because it happens so quickly that your body doesn't have time to react to it.

Drinking too much water can deplete your body of needed sodium and potassium. This is most likely when a lot of water is comsumed at one time as opposed to drinking little quantities throughout the day. Drinking water will not hurt you if you still maintain a healthy diet, drink water consistantly, and keep you water cunsumption to something reasonable - say under two gallons a day.

Drinking too much water and developing a lethal toxicity is more common that imagined. It is the cause of death associated with the use of the recreational drug ecstasy that is commonly used at raves.

Water is very good for you. All the chemical reactions that take place in your body use water to operate. Your body needs water to make the nutrients in your food useable. Drinking water helps keep your skin healthy and younger-looking. It makes your liver and kidneys healthy, along with pretty much your whole body.

The only potential problem I can imagine with drinking too much water would be if you drank too much of it all at once. I think I heard about some fraternity pledge hazings that made the pledge drink a couple gallons of water really fast and they got dangerously sick. But I think it was because your stomach just can't hold that much of anything all at once. It wasn't the water's fault. It was because the stomach couldn't hold it all at one time.

If you drink water all day long, that's no big deal. Just don't chug a couple gallons of it in under 30 seconds and you should be very healthy. Don't drink it any faster than you normally would drink anything.

*Yes. Drinking too much water can lead to a condition known as water intoxication and to a related problem resulting from the dilution of sodium in the body, hyponatremia. When too much water enters the body's cells, the tissues swell with the excess fluid. Your cells maintain a specific concentration gradient, so excess water outside the cells (the serum) draws sodium from within the cells out into the serum in an attempt to re-establish the necessary concentration. As more water accumulates, the serum sodium concentration drops -- a condition known as hyponatremia. From the cell's point of view, water intoxication produces the same effects as would result from drowning in fresh water. Electrolyte imbalance and tissue swelling can cause an irregular heartbeat, allow fluid to enter the lungs, and may cause fluttering eyelids. Swelling puts pressure on the brain and nerves, which can cause behaviors resembling alcohol intoxication. Swelling of brain tissues can cause seizures, coma and ultimately death unless water intake is restricted and a hypertonic saline (salt) solution is administered.

*But drinking 5 bottles of water every day is not bad for you. In fact, the Institute of Medicine advises that men consume roughly 3.0 liters (about 13 cups) of total beverages a day.

Believe it or not, you can actually get "water poisoning" (called Hyponatremia) from drinking too much water. The symptoms are usually just light-headedness (if that's actually a word) and vomiting, very similar to heatstroke. Although some very serious cases have resulted in death.

But not to worry, drinking five bottles per day is perfectly healthy. In fact, I'll usually drink six or seven if I've been working in the sun all day.

Usually, no such thing. most people don't drink the 8 cups of water they're suppose to, but I know lots of water in a diet will help you lose weight and if you drink water that way you're entire life when your 50 you'll probably only look 30 or 25

yes, you can get intoxicated by water if you drink too much water and not enought salt and your body can develope It happens when the body's balance of salt and water become quickly diluted. It affects the production of nerve impulses, and impairs mental processes. Cells take on extra water and expand. As they swell, they put stress on the body's organs, particularly the brain, which has little room to expand within the skull.
