We use vinegar and water...not sure if it's the best but it seems to work pretty good.

there are a million different products out there that you will spend 5-25$ on, and they may or may not work. Personally, i have a home remedy passed to me by a vet that i believe has worked wonders in my household of 5 cats and a dog. Maybe itll be great for you too! You want to get vinegar, baking soda, and hydrogen peroxide and dampen your carpet with these products in that order. The hydrogen peroxide will bubble and fizz. Let it react for 5-10minutes depending on the severity of the smell. After it has reacted get a paper towel and just wipe the bubbles off (do not rub the carpet). Then you want to get an old brush or something with bristles and brush through the area to make sure the chemicals spread, vacuum over the spot and place cling wrap over the spot until dry (This will help the dog to forget the area by blocking the scent) It may take up to 72 hours to dry then remove the wrap and you are done. Not only should you not be able to smell it, but the dog shouldnt be able to either, making the spot less appealing for future accidents!! Its alot of work, but worth it, and cheap!

This MAY work, but I think that it will cover up the Amonia/Urine scent. I would suggest using a urine cleaning product that contains enzymes. Enzymes are proteins that speed up chemical reaction. When the enzymes enter the space of the area that smells like urine it will eat away and break down the chemical compostition of the cat/dog urine, thus eating away at the scents, then making it odorless. I hope that helps.

To make your dog stop using the bathroom in the house just rub his nose in it and spank him on the butt when he does it.
But to eliminate the odor, I find Febreeze quite usefull. But make sure its not Febreeze Air Effects. It will be in a cleaner type bottle, also be sure to spray it right where the dog peed.

Good luck.
