The top 3 signs of something being wrong with a mole is:
1- They are not perfectly round
2- They all of a sudden change color/shape
3- They are 2 different colors (dark in the middle and light around the edges or vice versa)
But either way, he should see his doctor

A changed color or shape can be a sign of caner. It is one of the warning signs in regards to a mole. He best see a doctor asap.

omg, get to the doctor asap. My girlfriend's sister's best friend's aunt had a mole that changed colors and she died of skin cancer.

He needs to get it checked right away. Anytime a mole or freckle changes you need to have it checked.

Visit the Dr with it. Moles can harmlessly itch/change shape colour, but it's best to get it checked out.
