I am surprised at how many people answered this question and by the way everyone did so without being hateful or insulting to any one.
I will have a very difficult choice in choosing best answer as there are so many thoughtful and well written ones and I would also like to say
Thank You All

That is the message I have been trying to bring to every persecuting Christian on here. I try my hardest to be respectful, and I have been praying for everyone that I have talked to on here. Thank you for this post.

Try as I might, I don't always follow that verse. I do say the serenity prayer over and over again in my head when I find myself in stressful situations but there are times when I come across a real stupid person and I just have to let them know that they are being a dumbass.....now I feel like Red Foreman off of That 70's Show.

Josephus,
A challenging question. How many? Who knows?
It would be a wonderful thing if all Christians did. Christ taught us to love and he Himself demonstrated how. Thank God that even when we fail to follow Christ's example He still loves us. So much so that He gave Himself up for us, you and me. Amazing!
He loves us when we are His enemies, when we curse Him, He does good to those who hate Him, prays for those who revile and persecute Him and His church. I'll keep trying to live up to that example. Thanks for asking!

Chrisitans are sinners just like anyone else. We just understand that fact, but still have tendencies to go back and do things that are ungodly. We are not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. We all fall short of the Glory of God.
But this should not be used as an excuse to sin purposefully.

That is true and good. But this is what helps me sleep at night:
Romans 12:19
"Do not be revengeful, my dear friends, but give way before anger; for it is written, "Vengeance is mine; I will repay..." saith the Lord....
God could open up a bigger can of pain on ones enemies then I could ever imagine or attempt to inflict. We just gotta leave it in his hands.....

I didn't when I first became a Christian. My grandfather was the one who really instilled the importance of this verse in me. It isn't easy to turn around and love and pray for the people who treat you horribly. But we must love and forgive in order to be loved and forgiven. I read a saying the other day that said Forgive your enemies, but remember their names. I really agree. The Bible teaches us to be wise as well. So after we love and forgive our enemies, I believe we need to be wise so we can (hopefully) avoid similar situations in the future.

Of course. By doing so we heap burning coals upon the heads of our enemies. This verse, however, does not mean that we do not stand against false teachings and evil because the Bible teaches otherwise. It means we do not seek vengeance, but leave that to God.

I want to, but I am sure that I don't. I do try as hard as I can. If there are people that I do not get along with, i do pray for them, and I try to be kind to them. And then sometimes I'm just like aaaaaaaah!!! I want to freaking hurt this person. Being kind to someone that hates you is really hard.

no one does.
AND QUIT TAKING VERSES OUT OF THE CONTEXT OF THE ENTIRE BIBLE TO MAKE A POINT OF SOME KIND, a typical trick of most IN ALL RELIGIONS. no one in any religion follows the rule's and edicts of their beliefs.
i could also temper your question with a verse out of the old testament, which by the way was the scripture's Christ told us to study, that states that i should not cast my pearl's before swine.
remember it is god " who causes well being , and creates calamity, and it is HE who causes the light and the darkness, HE IS THE ONE WHO HAS THE POWER AN NO OTHER. but do try , and ask him to fill in the needs.
The mistake of most people in any " RELIGION" is to think that they can do things outside of god's will, NOTHING is outside his will. once you realize that you have no need for any RELIGION. LIVE LONG AND PROSPER.

Honestly ...
A great many of us (Christians - and general human-beings) do abide by this code!
We are taught to forgive all so that we too, might be forgiven! He (Jesus) has promised us forgiveness. We need only follow Him and forgive our debtors, as He has done. He has shown us 'the way'!
What more does one need?
