In the U.S. that depends on the bank.
I was shopping around for a checking account.
Some banks do check credit for both checking and debit card
Some banks just check credit for debit cards.
Other banks just check either cheqsystems or telecheck for bad check writing

No you do not need a good credit score to get a debit card from a bank for a checking account. I don't have a good credit score and I have one. It is only if you are wanting a credit card. The debit card will draw the money straight out of your checking account right then and there.

No. All you need is the banks minimum requirement of money to open the account. After you open a account you should be issued a debit card.

Checking and savings accounts NEVER report to the credit bureaus, therefore they do not affect your score. If they pay late, they will get charged fees by the bank. If they do not pay those fees within 30 days (or less), they get reported to CheckSystems. Once in check systems you will not be able to open a checking account anywhere in the United States until you clear up the matter. /

You shouldn't. They are both based by how much money you deposit in the account and are not short term loans like a credit card.
