I'm an atheist but I think that I'm very judgmental and intolerant of certain things. The difference between me and a judgmental, intolerant religious person is that my judgment and intolerance are based on logical conclusions reached by sound reason and much ethical scrutiny of and reflection on the given subject, rather than "the [insert ancient tome of dogmatic apocrypha] told me to."

Because we have developed a culture where everyone does what is right in their own eyes and no one thinks anyone has a right to tell anyone else what they should or shouldn't do.

Rev 2:20-23

20 Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols.

21 I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling.

22 So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways.

23 I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.
NIV

It appears there are some things that God has prejudged and tolerance is NOT acceptable.

Gal 5:19-21

19 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;

20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions

21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Intolerance is the contrived notion invented to label anyone who disagrees mentally unfit to make a respectable decision and thus void any objections that might arise.

You would be hard pressed to make a list of reasons why it could be considered a good thing.

I dont know. People are too scared I guess.

Surely you would be expected to be intolerant of some things, at least in your own life. Most people actually are intolerant of things, but swear they are not, they just cant stand that type of thing.

oh well.

people are confusing.

Its probably this 'do gooder' attitude of some fundamental agnostics lol

I think its fine to be intolerant of things in your own life, but when you are intolerant of things being in other peoples personal lives, things that are actually kept personal, I think that is ridiculous

Because it closes your mind to the opinions, beliefs and even lifestyle of others. It is a burden to release yourself from rather than a dogma to persist in.
