I've had a retainer for about 5 years maybe but about 3 years ago my orthodontist said that I didn't need to wear it anymore. Now my teeth are bothering me a bit because one is farther out than the other. I was wondering if its okay to start wearing the retainer now after a while and if wearing this temporary one on my front upper teeth will somehow realign the front bottom teeth who also are some-what, or very little, out of allignment. Any ideas as to the best way to restart wearing a retainer and how to make it work the best it can?

The other day when I was at the dentist the lady who cleaned my teeth said that she still wore hers every night to keep them straight so it's no harm.I have a permanent retainer on my bottom teeth and I never wore my other retainer at all and had no problems. Then again,my problems were mostly my bottom teeth.

Your best bet would be to call your orthodontist and make an appointment. Bring your old retainer with you when you go. He might be able to adjust it so that it can realign the teeth. If not, you might have to get a new one. Do it now before it gets any worse. Maybe once the teeth are aligned again, you can just wear the retainer at night.

if ur teeth shifted a lot ur retainer won't fit....if it does fit u should wear it..u should go back to the orthodontist if it doesn't..they won't move back by themselves
