Although no Muslims, who were American citizens, were ever involved in terrorism, most Americans just lump all of us Muslims together. People here don't realize that there were many Muslims on the airliners, in the world trade center, and working in the Pentagon, who died that day.

The answer to your question is, yes. Check www.cair.com for statistics. A few people have been murdered for their percieved Muslim sounding names or appearances. Many people have been fired, and many others were refused employment. This is all documented on CAIR's website (www.cair.com).

I have personally experienced special scrutiny at airports, especially when I came back from Hajj. More than a thousand Muslims were rounded up and put in jails right after 9/11 until they could be sorted out....kind of a fishing expedition. Friends of ours, who work for the police department of the city near which I live, tell us that the police chief instructed his officers to arrest any Muslim they saw after 9/11.

Almost every other day there is an attack on a Mosque. There were nightly FBI raids in Queens and Brooklyn where many Pakistani immigrants live. So much so that the streets became deserted and businesses closed for a few months. Many Muslim families migrated from the US out of fear.

After having said all this, I have to praise the over-whelming majority of people in this country who are kind, understanding, and tolerent. many people, especially members of churches neighboring Mosques, came to show their support and offered help to those who were affected by the reaction to the terrorist attacks. The legal system here works better than any other coutry I can think of, and most of those who commit crimes against Muslims are eventually punished.

In that way I am proud to be an American, because most of the people of this coutry love freedom...their's and their Muslim neighbor's as well. Just think of what happens everytime there is a communal riot in India. It's turns into a Muslim-killing orgie.
