Sadly very few vets are bird specialists and get it wrong. The other problem is the cost involved in properly diagnosing a birds illness. Not many people will spend the money to diagnose a $10 bird. Lab tests probably need to be done to find out what is wrong with your bird. That means drawing blood. Your vet seems to have done what will most likely help but I doubt they know what is really wrong.

There is another problem you are dealing with. Budgies are small and it does not take long for an illness to seriously hurt and kill them. Another problem is birds do everything they can to not let you know they are sick. Sick birds get eaten in the wild, so they pretend to be fine. Once you see they are sick, they are really sick.

Unless you have a lot of money to spend, the best you can do now is give your bird the medicine your vet gave you. Check to see if your bird is drinking the water. If not you need to ask the vet how much medicine they need to be given with a dropper and feed it to them that way and let them have fresh water. The worst thing that can happen is your bird does not like the taste of the water and they get no water and no medicine. They get dehydrated and sicker and die. You also need to keep your bird warm. Cover their cage and place a covered bottle of warm water in it to act like a heater. The water should just feel slightly warm to your touch. That is about 100 to 105 degrees F.

If you do have the money, find a vet that is a bird specialist. Then you will have to spend the money to have tests done. Again, small birds don't last long so you may be out of time.

Good luck!

You have some very good advice here. Do be sure your vet is a bird specialist and a good one is hard to find. Do keep your bird warm? It will help him get better if he doesn't have to work to keep warm. I often put a light close but not too close and cover the cage. I have little heaters here and when it get chilly I turn on the heater to give them a little extra warm. I often put a sick bird in the bathroom more because it is easier to keep the room warm and separate from the others. Be sure no breezes. Is your bird eating? Is your bird drinking? Is your bird pooping and what does it look like and how much. Be sure you can tell this to your vet. Little birds often do not drink water with antibiotics so watch carefully but this was covered by another. Is your bird staying up on the perch or going down to the bottom of the cage? Bottom is bad news. Anyone that gets a pet, regardless of the price, has the responsibility to provide medical care for the animal. Good for you and good luck.

Hi there. Continue the antibiotics, keep the bird's environment warm and play soothing music. Feed the bird a good pelleted food with10% seed, 10% fruits and veggies and some chopped hard cooked egg for extra protein to heal. Avoid any drafts. The bird should get better in 24-48 hours. If he doesn't make it, know that he was loved by someone who really cared. It sounds like a respiratory infection and hopefully it's upper and not lower. Hang in there and I believe that prayer wouldn't hurt. Patients that are prayed for do better than those that aren't even if they don't know others are praying for them. Hey, if studies show it works on humans, why not birds? I'm not religious at all and it can make a difference.I hope things work out well for someone who has that much compassion for a bird.

The best advice is to take the bird to an avian specialist. It is true that birds will hide their sickness. Keep him warm (I have a heating pad I use just for one of my birds) leave him alone and quiet. I would cover the cage and give the medicines you were given. If the bird is puffed up and sitting on the floor of the cage he is very very ill. It is true they can pass very quickly. I agree with the person who said that if the antibiotics are in the water the bird may not drink it. Check the emergency vets in your area. we have a vet school that has a 24 hour ER and I would take the bird ASAP. I had my cockatiel die a few months ago and it was so quick once I noticed she was even sick. i will be praying for your baby.

It seems that ur budgie is suffering from cold. Expose it to some source of heat like a heater or a specific type of cage is availabe in the market in which the temprature can be regulated according to the budgie's condition. If I m not wrong then it is callaed the hospital cage........ I hope ur budgie gets well soon.................

maybe I am wrong for saying this, but you must REALLY love this budgie if you spent the money on TWO vets plus antibiotics, and the bird probably costed less than $20.
I am sorry your bird is sick. Make sure your bird is out of all drafts, and away from windows. Hope he feels better.

Thankfully you took her to the vet because the people here have not examined your bird, can't examine your bird and therefore are unable to tell you what is wrong with her.

Follow the instructions given to you by your avian vet.

I hope she recovers soon.

Make sure to keep him warm. Put a cloth over at least part of the cage, and keep it in a warm place.
I hope he gets well.

you might have a blood test done.....budgie may also be getting dehydrated as well.....get her in the shower with you...get her in moist air..... that happens over winter months - they can get too dry.....these are only ideas.....not anything to back it up with....good luck with budgie.
