My mom chews alot of gum when she's nervous. You should figure out what is working on your nerves and find another outlet for that anxiousness.
Of course, I don't think gum will actually hurt you physically, the down side is that if it's not sugar free, you're adding calories and hurting your teeth. Sugarless is full of ingredients that aren't really good for you either. And...it could put unwanted gas in your belly.
I use a stress ball to alleviate some of my stress. Seems to work well.

I had this problem, and then anytime I chewed gum my teeth would throb along with my head. Made me stop real fast. I recently started again, two pieces a day is all though.
It's not a bad habit at all, don't worry about it. Better than smoking or drugs!

physically--no (but when i chew gum a lot it hurts my jaw!)
mentally--it is only a problem if you let it be a problem. i mean having an addiction to anything is bad. but this isn't hurting you or anything so it is probably okay to chew gum as much as you want as long as your not replacing it with meals (my friend did that for a while and we were extremely concerned!)

Go ahead and chew your gum. There are too many bad addictions and this is not one of them...Don`t go back to smoking!

Just don't swallow the gum and brush those teeth three times a day, the biggest problem would probably be the sugar sitting in your mouth.

Its bad on your jaw.
I have TMJ and they told me not to chew gum, but I do it anyway. I'm pretty addicted to gum as well!

It's probably not a bad thing, as long as the gum is sugarless. However, you might want to ask your doctor or dentist if it could do any harm.

My daughter is addicted to gum also. She will not chew sugarless either. I hope you chew sugarless. I guess that is not a bad addiction.

I don't see what's wrong with chewing gum..just make sure you brush the sugar off your teeth at night and don't smack or pop your gum..that's gross and annoying.
