Site below is for California Attorney general site. It lists what is required. There is also a process for a concealed carry permit.
NOTE: Despite the existence of this licensing procedure for concealed carry, it is reported that in many California counties, the license is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to obtain.

You will need:
1. A current Drivers lisnce.
2. Proof of safety training one of the following:
a. Handgun Safety Card.
b. Security Firearm permit.
c. Law Enforcement ID.
3. Proof of residence in the state of California.
a. Current vehicle registration in you name.
b. a utility bill in your name at your current address.

If you need to get the HSC (handgun safety card) the store you are going to buy the firearm from can issue the card after you take the test and pass. They will also have a study book for sale should be 50 cents. the test is 30 question true/false & multi. choice. you can miss 7 and still pass.

You also need to be 21 years of age, no felonies or violent misdeameanors, no restraining orders.

as far as cost should be around $25.00 for the HSC cardand its good for 5 years.

good luck

Quote - "What do i need to buy a hand gun in Los Angeles C.A?" Drive a couple hundred miles north to Oregon, buy a couple of a local classified ad, and find someone selling a handgun. Call them up, meet and buy the gun. Drive a couple hundred miles back south.

Done!

Oh, you mean aboveboard? Move a couple hundred miles north, take up residence. Enjoy the privileges of living in decent state.

The citizens of California lost their second amendment rights years ago.
Unless you are rich, famous, and politically connected your chances of getting a permit to own a handgun are slim and none.
The State also controls what kind of handgun you can own as well, forget about any high capacity gun.
Here in Wyoming I can go into a gun store, select my choice of firearm, write out a check, wait a few minutes for the stupid backround check, and then take my new gun home. No one in California has that right anymore.

Comrade!

You must go to your loyal and friendly local Soviet, and humbly beg the magnanimous Party Officials there for the necessary paperwork! Once you have secured this paperwork, fill it out, supplying all pertinent information, including your mother's maiden name and all contact information for all friends and acquaintances for the last twenty years, in triplicate. Once you have turned in this information, your local Soviet will carefully deliberate the isue, considering all factors and then hand down a common-sense decision based on the needs of the Party. Your co-operation is expected and demanded! Your loyalty must be unwavering! Death to the Fascist Traitors of the NRA! Long live the glorious Peoples' Republic of California!

I was watching an episode of "Dragnet" on one of those classic tv stations. Friday and Gannon were guests on a local current events panel discussion, and an audience member angrily asked them a question about gun control. The cops were on the gun control side, and the audience thought they should be able to have whatever gun they wanted whenever they wanted, for protection. Dragnet was set in LA. eerie

Get together with some of your fellow Californians and vote the liberals out of office!

Given enough time they will begin to affect the rest of us here in the free states as they have in the past. :-(

Legally? I am not sure. Contact your local NRA representative. They will be more then willing to help you with the legal issues of firearm purchasing.

The other way......

Approach a group of mal-content youths on a street corner in Watts or Long Beach or Compton, etc. Be sure they are wearing either mostly red or blue clothing. Solid red or blue colored handkerchiefs hanging from their pockets is a good sign. Plainly state to them you wish to purchase a firearm off the books. According to the LAPD these fine young folks should be able to help you.
