i have 4 budgies and they eat both the fruit and the peel. they finish off the fruit first and then *destroy* the peel. they love it!!!! these are birds that wouldn't be caught dead eating a vegetable, but now enjoy a couple of different ones as well as some fruits.

I don't know about giving it to budgies, but I know that the orange side of the peel has some very strong oil in it, that is used only in tiny amounts as a flavoring for humans, whereas the thick, white side of orange peel is actually 'Richly endowed' with bioflavonoids. I wouldn't think that the white side would harm a budgie, & may even be very good for it. However, I'd with-hold the orange side. I used to have a budgie, and I regularly gave her fresh twigs from a eucalytus tree. It seemed to enjoy debarking the twigs! There are strong oils in the leaves, though, that might not be so good for a budgie ...
Twigs of fruit & nut trees may be safest, but others may be good, too.

also never give chocolate to any bird. And never cook with teflon around birds. If the teflon burns, or their is a scratch in the pan, the poisonous fumes can kill a parrot
As far as i know, orange peels would be okay, but the oils in them may not be great so i wouldnt give them often

Birds are very cautious about eating new things so if the bird doesn't like the taste she wont eat it! My parrot loves clementines. I cut them up and he loves eating the pulp. Birds can eat what we eat so they may play with the peel and tear it up but they probably wouldn't eat it!
agree with the other writer..give the bird some orange not the peel!!!!

I was wondering why not give the fruit part? I don't enjoy the peel and really don't know of any creature that does. Have a nice day.

Of course.
The ONLY things your budgie cannot have are:
1. Avocado
2. Pineapple
3. Tomato
These will be fatal to her.
