Even if they get a scholarship, don't they need loans for room and board?

Yes. A student loan is in the students name and there is no credit check. If a PLUS loan is needed and the parents are denied for it you the student would qualify for additional student loans (I had this happen to me when my mom filed for bankrupsty).

Yes. Your parents filed. The loan would be in your name and would have nothing to do with your parents' financial history.

u can ask the FA office about "special circumstances".. since ur original aid package included both ur parents income.. they may now refigure it and only count the aid of whichever parent gives you more than 50% of their support.. this will up ur aid.. Try for a grant first.. loans are bad ideas unless u have to..

doubtful. That is one of the things they look for. Try a scholarship.
