Your recruiter should have told you that you need to bring enough personal toiletries (tootbrush/toothpaste, change of underwear, tampons/pads, deodorant{non-aerosol} etc.) to last 2-3 days (to allow for processing at the MEPS). Basically whatever can fit into an average size backpack. DO NOT take more than that. Also make sure you bring an address book that has ALL of your friends and relatives addresses AND phone numbers, and if possible, a rechargeable calling card (most basic training sites have banks of pay phones). When you finally get to boot camp, you might not be able to phone home for at least a week, so letters and phone calls will be most important, so be sure to tell your friends and family to return the letters. Don't worry about stationery, you will have PLENTY of paper and pens/pencils! Good luck and even though I don't know you, I am proud of you.

Clubcowboygirl got the list down.
Travel as light as you can.
You won't be wearing any civilian clothes while you are in basic so bring your undies, feminine hygiene stuff, toothbrush & paste, deodorant, a brush or comb and the clothes on your back. I would say bring shampoo, but with the 3 ounce limitation on airlines, you might as well knuckle down and use the stuff they have there.
When you leave basic, you will be carrying a duffelbag plus whatever you brought with you, so the smaller the bag the better.
Thank you & God bless you for your service!

when i enlisted into the army, i was told to bring $10. they provided a list of required items for basic training, and we were given an advance on our first pay period to cover the cost of the items on the list at the PX. It was about $150 worth of stuff. Anything not on the list was generally not allowed. Anything we brought in with us, including our clothes, shoes, and glasses, was stored for us during basic and returned afterward. This was in 1988, things may have changed much since then.

Forget the list. Take the clothes on your back, a SMALL address book, Bible, $20.00 and that's it. Yes, the Recruiter has a list he/she can give you. Forget it. Our son's Recruiter told him to forget it too and it worked out much better for him. Other Recruits had brought "the list" and were totally humilitated for it. In the end, EVERYTHING else, including the clothes on their backs, was shoved in a box and mailed back home. The day our son's box arrived, I sat right down in the middle of the floor in the entrance way and cried like a baby as I hugged it. It was horrible! But Boot Camp isn't just for you. Truth is, it's for your family too. I had a lot of hard lessons to learn as well.

The Navy will provide you with everything you need... and then charge you for it out of your first pay! ha!

Good luck! And thanks for choosing to serve!

when i went to the marine boot camp, I brought everything expect for the kitchen sink. B/c I followed a list. This one girl only brought a bookbag with a few things and the kitchen sink. Remember this, when you leave, you will be carrying a few of things you brought plus your military gear. Lots of bagage.

they will let you go to the mcx or px or nex or whatever they call it there.

Oh rah

Just the bare essentials, because everything else is taken away from you, and returned to you after training is over, so don't bring things like ipods and stuff like this.

your recruiter should have given you a list of items you should take, if not ask him/her. you might also be provided with a list at the MEP'S station before you leave. You should be allowed to purchase necessities during boot camp. I went to Ft. Sill and we used a "smart card" it had $100 on it which they took out of our first paycheck.
