oh lordy, why would you want to be a travel agent? i was an agent for 7 yrs back in the 90s when we still got perks like free hotels, tours and travel.. we were paid excellent commissions then it went to a flat fee, almost nothing. closed most little shops. very difficult to make a living now.

go to an airline so you get unlimited flight benefits and really good health benefits, 401k, etc. pay sux as bad as an agency, but at least you get unlimited travel anywhere in the world with a major airline like delta or american.

they train you! no classes required!! has nothing to do with previous travl training, its all about personality, willing to close the sale, etc, which they will test you on - i took a meyers briggs test. and something else to determine if you hv the "characteristics" that employees succesful in the role have ... and if you're trainable, positive, helpful, and outgoing.

it is a passion,, i got bored after i hit the countries i wanted to see and needed more challenges. i went to college, got a 4 yr degree, make great money and now buy my own travel. don't travel nearly as much, or as many out of country trips but its all about compromise and what you want - plan ahead for your career, make sure its what you want.

good luck!

Well I'd think that geography would be usefull. But most travel agents have their jobs from working their way up through a travel agency. I don't really know of let alone heard of and education degree for a travel agent.

I don't think you need to take any. My sisters friend is a travel agent and she never took a single class. She just applied for the job like any other job.
