I had mentioned at work how I was saving my spare cash to buy a new bike so I could participate in a charity Bike Tour in the summer. I am a one income family (mine) and I dont have alot of money to spare to save for this bike. One of my coworkers called a friend of hers who insisted on donating her old bike to me so I could train for this Bike Tour.

I am stunned at her generosity, and tried to refuse, and/or pay her for the bike. This woman refused. I dont even know her name. My coworker delivered the bike to me at work. How do i thank her and her friend for something so wonderful? A card seems okay, but not enough, you know? Especially for this perfect stranger!

What should I do to show them my gratitude? The kindness moved me to tears..

Thanks for your help.

I think that was amazing of her and anyone that is so generous with their possessions and or time. You participating in the charity bike tour is equally commendable.

Something that may make her feel, and see, how her generosity was used to benefit you and others would be to take a photo of you riding it and print it on a thank you card with a caption to convey your feelings: "If not for you ~ I wouldn't be here ~ Thank you" (on the bike, riding in the charity bike tour, etc)

You could also put a small placard on the front or back of the bike with a personal "thanks Mary (whatever her name is obviously)

That might show the effort you put into showing her your appreciation as you so eloquently conveyed here. I was almost moved to tears myself.

Enjoy the bike tour!

A nice thankyou card to her, and an acknowlegment in her name to the charity would be appropriate. You could donate the money you've saved thus far to the charity in her name as well. This would be keeping in spirit with the nature of her gift. I'm sure she didn't give you the bike in hopes of a reward, she was making a charitable act. Return her kindness by doing the same. :)

Don't deprive the giver of the bike from the pleasure of giving you something they know you can use by trying to do something in return--although I understand the desire. Most people don't want you to grovel in gratitude. What is most gratifying is a simple note expressing your appreciation for their generosity and an assurance of how you plan to use it. Then be sure to follow through and ride that Tour! And do something selfless for someone else to pass on the "random act of kindness". You'll feel wonderful in doing so. :-)

What a thoughtful person! What is required is a personal thank you and a card. You may also wish to send her flowers (or better yet, take them when you bike to her house). Remember that people like this are not expecting to be paid back. Pay it forward honey and let her know that you hope to be in a position to do something as wonderful for someone else and will remember her when you do.

I'm sure she sees it as a donation to the charity cause that you will be touring for. I think a heartfelt note would be most appropriate. You could mention how you feel about the kindness like you did in this question.

You could bake a plate of cookies or brownies that is your special recipe and a warm note you could even say that you are naming the bike "Random Kindness" in her honor and make sure the story of this generous act get to the promoters to generate more sponsors for this event.

I would write a handwritten card thanking her for her generosity.

Probably the best way you can thank her further is when you find youself in a position to do a kindness to a complete stranger you take it. Think of it as a 'random act of kindness' thing.

Blessings,
Zimmi

I would have a friend take a picture of you on the bike, mat it, and then frame it....oh and on the matting write your thank you....something like "Your generous gift will forever be remembered...Thank you!"
