Clean the area with water and a very mild soap. Allow her to go without a diaper for a little while so the skin can breathe. There is a diaper rash cream called "Boudreaux Buttpaste" and it is the best stuff ever. If this doesn't clear it up then it may possibly be a yeast infection which is common in the diaper area due to moisture. If the buttpaste hasn't cleared it up in a few days try putting some Monistat Cream on the affected area.

You know what ? My daughter had very bad diaper rash , which was very persistant. None of the over the counter zinc oxide creams could even knock it back.
We ended up going and getting a prescription cream , which also did nothing.
Our moms , (I am 40) and their moms used corn starch , yup ordinary corn starch , and that was what finally took care of my daughters rash and quickly.

Try Dr. Smith's diaper rash cream. It is awesome, It'll get rid of the rash really fast. It's the one I recomend to all my friends and to all the young new moms I deal with at work.
