Kiss a napkin ( Lipstick ) and put a little perfume on it with your next letter. Sounds corney but he will like it.

Honestly, he will like anything you send. Just the fact that you will take time to send him things will be enough.

Also, find out if there are specific things he needs that the PX's they have set up there are always out of. Razors, his shaving cream, socks, etc. When they run out over there, they never know when they will get new stuff in.

Pictures are also always good. You do get tired of the same pictures. New ones are always nice. If he is into sports, or hunting, or whatever, pick up a couple newer issues of some of the magazine he would be interested in.

Not to be gross, but send him a shirt or something you were wearing. Obviously not a workout shirt or anything. Every person has a smell(not talking BO here). Believe me, he will be able to close his eyes and feel like you are there. Seriously, this is not in some gross manner. You don't notice it until you are away from someone for a long time.

Again, though, he will just be happy to have his name called during mail call and see you name on the box or envelope.

Send him anything that will have your smell or odour on it. I know it has been said before and sounds a bit gross, but it is comforting. a t-shirt or something. Even if it has been washed it will still have that "home" smell. Send him letters because when his name is shouted at mail-drop it will get his heart racing, that is the best feeling in the world.

As for food:- Beef Jerky, boiled sweets, anything that will not disssolve or decompose and is a good energy giver.

Make sure you give him a heads up about this one, but toothpaste etc are a major commodity. As for mouthwash it is nearly impossible to get.

Here is what to do.
1. Buy a couple of bottles of listerine etc
2. empty contents
3. fill with Vodka or bacardi etc
4. add some green or red food coloring
5. re-seal and send.

Make sure about he knows about this for abvious reasons. The best present ever. Make sure he has an understanding CO.

I was in Iraq from March 04-05 and the thing that kept me going was letters in the mail, and pictures. just regular pics of you at home or something, just something he can carry with him close to his heart. maybe send him some snacks with it, something that he likes eating (chocolate is hard due to 140 degree weather) Any other questions just ask junior85323 @yahoo.com
P.S. I'm still in the army and I'm married so don't worry about writing

Photos are nice. Something formal, and maybe something a little more revealing. Realize that others will be looking at these pictures, so don't get carried away :)
Call him every once in a while, and plan to be around when lets you know he'll call you. The latter was always a MAJOR annoyance with my troops.

Honestly send him things he likes that he may not be able to get over there, If he loves jelly beans send him a few pounds that sort of thing. Also you can ask him if you get a chance if he needs anything it might sound dumb to you but who knows it might be something as simple as batteries for a mag-lite or a certain kind of socks he can't get.Hope that helps, good luck

Pictures of you would be nice of course. But mainly just keep in touch with him on a regular basis. Write him often and send him "gift boxes" full of things hard to get in Iraq. Simple things can show him you care and havent forgotten him.

I am not a man in the military but I just read the first answer you got and.....anyway.....

I think lots of letters, emails, phone calls, pictures, and things like that are what they appreciate the most. In their situation I think they appreciate the little things that most people forget about.

Something simple...Why don't you make (or buy) a card, and have everyone you know sign it and write a little note (even strangers) talking about how much they appreciate what he's doing over there. It shows that you're putting a lot of effort to get everyone to write something...and it'll help keep his morale up.

You and I are in the same boat. My bf just left in October. I send him hard candies, a few mixed CD's and pictures. And when ever I send him a letter, I spray it with perfume so that he can always smell me at least. Good luck to both of you!
