If a cat doesn't urinate in 24 hours, they could die. His bladder could be blocked and he needs vet attention ASAP...or he could just have a bladder infection, but still needs to see a vet. Can be extremely serious or life threatening.

He may very well have a urinary tract infection. This is common in male cats, but not usually kittens. However, what he is doing is classic behavior for urinary tract problems.
Don't worry though, it can come on from stress, and poor nourishment, which is often a factor in pet shop babies. In older cats, particularly males, they can end up with permanent urinary tract problems from high ash content in their food, so for future reference, keep his food ash content lower than 4%. The lower the better. They are required to carry the ash content in the ingredients, so it's easy to track. The cheaper the food, the higher the ash content as a rule, however, I know the safeway store brand of canned cat food has a good low ash content.
Give him a couple of days, and if you see nothing, he should see the vet, and will need a few days of antibiotic, but I wouldn't worry. He should get through it fine with a little help. Make sure he has plenty of fresh water to drink.

Good advice so far. I would also suggest that you confine him to a small area, like the bathroom, for a day or two just to make sure he is urinating. A blocked cat will yowl and lay funny, kind of all stretched out, and his belly will feel very hard. If you suspect he's blocked, that's an emergency and he needs to be seen by a vet immediately. Very rare in one this young, but something all owners of male cats need to be aware of, just in case.

If I was you, I'd get him to the vet in case it's a urinary tract infection. IF NOT, try finding a special litter called "Cat Attract". My male cat would NOT use any litter other than that when I first got him, but as previously pointed out..............you need to make sure he is OK first. Urinary tract infections can be fatal in male cats.
