What helped me the best was the midwest center. It's a cognitive approach to anxiety and depression which usually goes hand and hand. Your always gonna have to deal with anxiety, everbody does... you just have to learn to do is feel the fear and do it anyway. Whenever you get anxious do breathing exercises... inhale through your mouth for three seconds and then out through your nose for three seconds to purposely slow down your breathing, and just tell yourself that your okay... your not dying, going crazy,or having a heartattack.... it's the adrenaline that freaks you out! There's always a point when you feel yourself feeling anxious and you can completely go over the edge and have a full blown attack or you can calm yourself down by doing the breathing and relaxing your body. You might also want to look at your diet and see what can possibly making you feel like this example drinking caffine, chocolate, a lot of carbs, ect..... Exercise always helps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Don't be afraid to tell a family member how you are feeling and what "scary thoughts" you might be having"
Start journaling and wtite down when you felt anxious, and what ways your diet or your self talk could have contributed to the attack and then try and change it. Recovery is a gradual process, and really sucks, but you can do it.... you have to take the approach to feel the fear and do it anyway, otherwise you will let this disorder control your life.... hope i could help you... good luck

There are no real treatments besides medicine, although you can look into self-hypnosis. I too suffer from anxiety, and when I'm having a panic attack I like to calm down a little bit and make schedules. Schedules of what I'm going to do that day and what I need to get done. That usually takes the anxiety off of my mind for a while.

I have read some litterature about panic attacks. But they allways seem to have a more scientific approach and that is nothing I need in my struggle to survive those horrible panic attacks. This is a "hand on" and very practical book. I felt it was written to me. I am sure that you are going to feel the same.

Joe Barry writes exactly how I think. The examples are perfectly described. And the method is genius. I recommend this book and thanks Joe Barry for writing it. It changes your life

PANIC ATTACKS

Symptoms of a “panic attack” includes:
shortness of breath,
chest pain,
dizziness,
heart
palpitations,
and/or feelings of being out
of control or “going crazy.”
Sometimes, the unsettling feelings that precede a hot flash
can trigger such an attack.

Anxiety can be related to depression. Severe symptoms of anxiety can usually be relieved through one of several therapeutic approaches, including prescription drug treatment, relaxation techniques, stress reduction techniques, counseling, or psychotherapy.

Extreme hormonal changes like that of anxiety, crying spells and migraines before monthly menstruation have sent some of us to seek psychological counseling. my experiences in everyday problems took on enormous significance. i always cry and cry. i thought my life had fallen and had no
idea that this depression was the result of the enormous chemical upheaval taking place inside my
body. i am faced with the questions to myself about what the future hold for me, is my life getting better?, will anyone love me? any period of transition bring with its moments of sadness and all of that i experience.

It is important to know as much as we can about how our physical states affect our moods, and equally important, how our emotional states affects the inside of our bodies. we have to have a lot of useful informations. clearly enough, not every factor that tilts us toward to depression or nervousness at menopause is within our control but there are positive ways and steps we can take to minimize
them if we began to feel down and empty.

Bio-feedback, deep breathing exercises, keeping active, general exercising, focusing on a hobby.

Also, try and face what's causing your anxiety. Play mental games with yourself...a personal reverse psychology. If what is causing your anxiety is in front of you, tell yourself it isn't really happening over and over.

This program helped me a ton!
It's a 10 week program. You do one lesson and listen to one audio tape (or CD) a week.

I have social phobia big-time along with depression and this program teaches you how to overcome your panic attacks, agoraphobia, anxiety and depression.
