If this behavior started when your houseguest arrived, it may be her way of retaliating against the "invasion" of "her" house. Regressive behavior isn't unusual in dogs who are suddenly faced with a situation for which they were unprepared.
Be calm but firm with her in upholding "potty on the paper" requirement, but also make sure to praise her a lot and give her a lot of extra attention when she does what she's supposed to. If you can, right before bedtime, restrict her food and water, and take her for a walk. Walking encourages the dog to eliminate, and will give your dog more opportunity to empty and her bowels and bladder.
If the behavior is accompanied by lethargy (sleepy all the time), blood in the stool or urine, or a fever (antyhing over 102 is too high), get your dog to her vet to check for an underlying medical issue.

She may feel uncomfortable. It depends how long the guest has been around and where the paper is. If it is close to where the guest sleep or wherever the guest goes, the guest may have abused her. If that isn't the reason, the dog may feel you don't change the paper a lot and doesn't want to go in a smelly place (if that is the case) Depending on how old she is, she may just be getting old. I'm sorry.
:-) Vanessa!

My mom has an older dog, though a bit older than yours, She's 13 now, When i lived there, from the time she was a young she knew to go to the door to go outside, except if we scolded her for getting on the couch, etc, she'd "pay us back" and go to the bathroom somewhere in the house where she's not supposed too, It sounds weird, but maybe your dog is mad at you? Is she used to having guests in your house? or it could possibly be that she's just getting old

I've had the same problem but with a much younger dog. My dog goes crazy when my girlfriend comes over and acts like a total nut, I realized that my dog was upset about not getting enough attention. I guess I really didn't answer your question, but my girlfriend has started paying a lot of attention to my dog and thing have gotten a lot better.

She seems to be reacting to your having a guest in your home. Dogs sometimes react to changes that affect their territory.
Hope you have tile floors. She could be trained, even though she has a really bad habit but it would take consistency and work on your part.

I think your dog is getting older. I mean, why else would she be acting up? My daughter has a Pomerian, and when we had my Uncles friend staying at our house she still used the paper.
But my Uncle's friend, just think of the movie... You Me and Dupree...
Yeah
Good Luck

The best method (I have been doing it for years) is to rub her nose in it, take her to the door, scratch her paws on the door and send her outside. After the 2nd or 3rd time, she will realize that she don't like tasting and smelling her own pee or poop. Always works. But like someone said, some dogs don't like to be watched. If you turn yours or your friends back she will go. Good Luck.

When i had a Friend over my dog didn't want my Friend looking so she wouldn't go to the bathroom but when he wasn't watching she would go! So i suggest to keep your friend away from your dog while its doing it thing.

she might have a urinary tract infection. go to the vet. frequent urination and in places they shouldn't go are signs. they sometimes have pain when urinating. they associate the pain with the place they are SUPPOSED to go. so they may avoid that spot thinking it won't hurt. trip to the vet is in your schedule.
